Australia has been hit by more than 2.24 million lightning strikes in just 48 hours as wild weather battered the east coast over the weekend.
Storms and damaging winds up to 100km/h wreaked havoc in multiple states, with volunteers responding to hundreds of calls for help.
The weather bureau said most of the 2.24 million lightning strikes were recorded in Queensland, NSW and the Northern Territory, with more storms expected this week.
The same wave of extreme weather slammed Southern Australia with more than 120,000 lightning strikes on October 22, 2020.
In Melbournes outer east a woman aged in her 50s was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries after the car she was driving crashed into a tree that had fallen onto the Maroondah Highway at Kilsyth.
Victorian State Emergency Service volunteers have responded to more than 330 requests for assistance in the past 24 hours for trees fallen onto buildings, roads and powerlines.
Kilsyth, Montrose and The Basin in Melbournes outer east were the worst affected areas with more than 240 call-outs, while a large Moreton Bay fig tree caused significant damage to a house in Glen Iris.

Obviously a widespread capacitive differential. Don’t golf! :-)
This not only will continue but will intensify as the magnetic South pole continues to wander northward.

The effects of Global Warming extends to the atmospheric electrical charge, resulting in increased lightning storms.
With the sun in a solar minimum increased lightning is usual on earth. The sun has far more effect on our weather/climate than the propagandists will admit. With the sun at a minimum there are more cosmic rays impacting the earth from outside the solar system.
Either that or God is pissed.
Perhaps both?
A classic! :-)
That spike in the north is Queensland and is the one area of Australia that gets really wet but it is also tropical so it is hot and very humid too. The city there, Cairns, on the east coast at the base of the spike, averages 78” in a year.
Note that they are moving into mid-spring down-under and like here in the States, it can get stormy!
Somebody tell Zeus Bruce Springsteen hasn’t moved to Australia yet.
Russia! Russia! Russia!
The Zot is strong with this country!
No worries. All you need to do is carry a one iron in the bag only. When Lee Trevino and Jerry Heard were struck by lightening on the 13th tee at the Western Open in 1975, Trevino said you should just carry a one iron in the bag...even God can’t hit that club. Played with Jerry at his home course of Sierra View in Visalia, California when I was in high school. Jerry was not effected much as he placed fourth in the tournament. It took Trevino a few years to find the right clubs to use in length and weight as his back was injured and changes had to be made. He started hitting fairways when he went to a longer diver.

In the old days people would have spoken about the Wrath of God.

“Joe, did you want 1 jelly donut or 2 jelly donuts?”
“Uh, two.... 2-million-14 thousand-and-two.”
