Sixteen years ago, a group of military veterans turned a presidential campaign upside down.
The Democratic Party had selected then-senator John Kerry as its nominee. His party positioned him as a war hero, backed with a glowing campaign biography by historian Douglas Brinkley. Inaccuracies in Brinkleys account attracted the attention of Navy veterans who had served with Kerry in Vietnam. They formed a group called the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and began to investigate and document Kerrys activities during and after the war. They quickly found and publicized evidence that undercut Kerrys mythology, including his oft-repeated claim that he had been illegally ordered by the Nixon Administration to fight clandestine battles in Cambodia.
But the real focus of the veterans was Kerrys work as spokesman for the anti-military group Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). The Swift Vets noted that Kerry and the VVAW worked closely with Americas wartime enemies, arranged multiple meetings with the North Vietnamese and Vietcong leadership, and consistently supported their positions. Kerry and his radical comrades also played a key role in defining the false, damaging image of Vietnam veterans as psychologically disabled alcoholics and addicts, haunted by the crimes they had been forced to commit in a racist war. John Kerry, the Swift Vets said, was unfit for command.

Trump could have easily contrasted Joe's fawning appreciation for first responders to the BLM war on police and called Joe out on the mat. Trump did great, but I was waiting for him to torpedo Joe amidships on this issue and it didn't come.
Good point. That was an open invitation.
He (Trump) did bring up BLM earlier in the debate in pretty harsh terms, but he didn’t smack down SloJoe when SloJoe kept pushing “first responders.” SloJoe used the term repeatedly enough that I figured it had to have been poll tested. If polls showed people responding positively to the term, Joe was baring his throat for a punch that never came.
I had a guy who served in Nam who worked with me say the same thing they cant slam the troops anymore like they did in the 70s so they go after the law enforcement now
Another interesting take on the police:
The Police and Us: Now is not the time to be a good German.

I just read that. As always, Dr. Codevilla makes important points. Just like it matters who directs the military, it matters who directs the police.
One of those ideas that when you read it you slap your forehead and go - of course - why didn’t I see that before!
I am honored to have played a small role in motivating you to self-flagellation.
Thanks, Race. Good to hear from you.
That smearing of our service men and veteran was a big reason why I left the DemonRat party. What they did after 9/11 and its aftermath to demonize and demoralize the troops showed me how anti-American they are. It was a real eye opener for me.
I donated money twice to the Swift Boat Vets. It was imperative that we kept Kerry out of the White House.

Many of us are now the Ancient Ones. I will be 82 in the first week of November.
Thank You! Great comparison.
Permit me to wish you a happy anticipatory birthday. :)
Thanks, my FRiend.
You know what I want for my birthday.
A bit off subject, but last nite I watched a 2015 movie called Truth; about Rathergate.
In it they mentioned Swiftvets and some other interesting stuff, apparent screenshots of FR (with handles I have added, plus one called Tijeras_Fats they changed a bit) which I have on my phone so can't post them here right now.
Thought I'd give you a heads up in case you never saw it. Interesting movie.
