I think if I would have seen that powerful ball of fire plummeting to earth I would have had a heart attack !

Keep looking up; you might get lucky. I have, and that’s no joke.

I did see something once that is very hard to explain. A light in the sky holding position, turning from red to blue to yellow to green every few seconds and I estimated it was over a wilderness area a couple of thousand feet up. Too far north to be a planet. Too big and bright to be any star.

Not the time or place for a helicopter. Too high to be searching the ground and no spotlight anyway. Lights not flashing but simply changing from one color to the other more slowly than any aircraft lights I’ve ever seen. I went to my truck for binoculars and it was gone. Less than a minute.

I was with an old sheep herder who had worked in those mountains every summer for 60+ years. IOWs he had seen everything there was to see in that night sky. He spotted it and he was freaking out. Started invoking God and Mary. When I asked him what happened when I went to the truck he said he looked away for a second and it was gone.

Back in the 60’s, way up the Merced River, in Yosemite, a friend & I saw 2 lights, high, coming in from the west, a bit before sunset. the lead one was about a degree—2 full moons— ahead of the trailing. The trailing was on a straight course, as was the leading, but it was sharply zig-zagging, but maintaining its lead & course.

Once they were overhead of us, a smaller, less bright, much faster light left the trailing one, going straight at the leading; about half way between them, the smaller flared & disappeared. At the same time, the leading light stopped its zig-zagging, and *instantly* doubled or tripled its forward speed, until it was about 5-6 degrees ahead; then it made an instant, right angle course change to the north. The trailing light then tried to follow, making a typical aircraft type turn, while being hopelessly outrun.

From what we could see in binoculars, something large, but featureless, was being pursued by a fighter jet, both at very high altitude. It had every impression of an attempted interception of an intruder, followed by an air-to-air missile launch, with the missile destroyed in mid flight. Whatever the lead thing was, it had capabilities that nothing we have even now, that we know about, could match.

I am generally rather skeptical of such things, even today, but still I don’t doubt you at all. Too many very solid people, some I have known personally, have had similar experiences. And of course my own.

I’d love to see something more exciting, like you did, but then what do you do with it? You can muse over it the rest of your life but realize you’ll probably never come to any conclusions or get verification for it.

But it’s still fascinating to have the experience and to hope for others.

Unless you’re crazy enough to go public with it, about all you can do is file it away for future mulling.

As for your lights, the wife, while still in high school, had a similar experience. She lived near an small, general aviation airport. fairly late one night, there was a bright light that she first thought was a landing light coming through her bedroom window.

Second thought was the police helicopter’s searchlight, because it was casting a moving circle of light on the ground...but it was silent. The bright light went out, and 2 sets of vertical lights came into view, like it had turned, with an indistinguishable dark shape joining them together.

The lights were blinking in sequence down, then back up, then down again, repeating rapidly: red-pink-white-pink-white-pink-red... . She called the airport, before the bright light went out, and they said there was nothing in the air anywhere in the area.

It just suddenly vanished, also.

I take my experience as a good way to tamp down my ego.
Keeps me from the tempting thought that I’ve got it all figured out.
Not even here in my own “back yard,” so to speak.
