In the weeks that follow the closure of the season...I’d expect the owners to huddle and discuss this ‘mess’ they’ve been handed. Profit from the TV contract continues, but once this TV contract runs out...I’d expect the networks to trim their offering for the new contract by a minimum of 30-percent.
If you count in Covid-seating and marginal interest in fan merchandise...you gotta resolve this problem in the next twelve months or tell the players to face up to a salary cut coming down the line.

In both the NBA and the NFL, it should be great to see what happens when the revenues are down, and the new player contracts come up.
They won’t be able to pay these players the money they expect. We shall see, when that happens, just how “woke” the filthy morons really are.

The financial situation in the NFL is even more dire.
Can the NFL even finish the season?
The NFL just canceled a game because two exceptionally fit young men tested positive for corona virus.
If just two sick guys can cancel a game, there will be more canceled games every week. Make up games? Essentially impossible with a weekly schedule and a maximum of one game per week.
Financially...
Very few NFL players have guaranteed contracts beyond one year. The risk of injury and declining skills is just too high.
Only big name free agents and First Round draft choices get 3-4 years of guaranteed money - and it is quite possible that their contracts do not pay out if the season is canceled because of a contagious disease.
Also, at least 60% of NFL players get paid LESS than a million dollars a year.
After income tax, FICA, Medicare, and union dues, most of them are lucky to take home $400,000.
Factor in child support, and most of the NFL guys will be bankrupt in two years.
