I rewatched the start of the debate. The 1st Q went to Trump who gave an uninterrupted 2-min response. Then Biden gave an uninterrupted 2-min response. Then it went back to Trump, whose answer was interrupted 3 times by Biden. If you didn't like it, blame Biden for starting it.— Ari Fleischer (@AriFleischer) September 30, 2020

Wallace should have shut Biden down at the start. Everyone knows Trump is a counter puncher.

Biden thought he’d do to Trump what he did to Paul Ryan 8 years ago. Trump was having none of it. The ferocious mauling Biden sustained, including the snippet about his receipt of a $3.5m bribe from Moscow through Hunter, has led to journalists urging an end to future debates. They’re not asking for an end to debates because Biden won hands down.

I went back and re-watched the circus this morning and noticed the same thing. Bidet initiated the interruptions and was allowed huge leeway by wallace for the remainder of the debait.

Meanwhile, National Review is doing its usual whinefest about Trump sounding unpresidential. Its Alexa ranking is now lower than Red State’s. Give it a couple more years, and that ranking will be below Free Republic’s. It is on the verge of becoming defunct just like the Weekly Standard. Bill Buckley would roll over in his grave if he knew what his magazine had become.

After further reflection that is the opinion I came to myself.

Wallace lost it by his constant interruptions.

Moreover, Biden thought he was going to be cute by trying his crap like he did to Ryan.

The creep found out it doesnt work that way with Donald Trump who isnt afraid to go toe to toe with anyone.

If there is another debate, the candidate that has the floor should be the only one with a live microphone and automaticly cut off at the end of their time.

I gotta give credit where credit is due. This isn’t the first time that I’ve noticed that Ari Fleischer is a mensch. He’s a rare bird among Bush alumni in that he treats Trump fairly and calls out liberal b.s. rather than being a gaslighting tool of the establishment like most of his former colleagues.

I think Trump was right to go on the attack from the beginning, to see if he could throw Biden off his game.

My honest assessment was that the debate generally sucked. Biden did a better job of memorizing his talking points - but still did a horrible job. Trump for his part was all over the place and did not do very well imo explaining his achievements. He tried, but just seemed not well prepared.

The media should really do legitimate follow ups. Trump said “sure” when asked if he would condemn white supremacists but then there was so much cross talk. But Chris Wallace should have known that Trump already proposed to name the KKK and Antifa both as domestic terrorist groups just a few days ago. Trump should have pointed that out. The media should also follow up on Biden’s failure to answer about packing the court, and his outright lies about Hunter. He said Hunter’s bribe taking was all “debunked” but that is simply false. Hunter went on national TV to discuss the Burisma scam; and the $3.5 million from Moscow needs further follow up especially in light of the fact that it is now confirmed that Brennan and informed the WH and FBI in July 2016 that Hillary was going to concoct the Russia Hoax. The truth is, Biden and Hillary were all in on Russian Bribes and their smear campaign was pure projection and deflection.

Basically agree with your assessment. However its worth noting that Biden regurgitated talking points all night, was over the top with personal attacks, and never even attempted to answer THE FEW questions posed to him. He came across as evasive.

When you take on the Champ you better knock him out. Biden did not do that. He offered no reason why to vote for him.

I agree. Biden was evasive. And rude. Calling the POTUS a clown, telling him to “shut up, man”... and they say Trump is “unpresidential” would Biden say the same thing to foreign leaders?

But Trump missed so many opportunities. When Biden said “I am the Democratic Party” Trump should have made him eat those words all night. You are the Democratic party? Then tell Nancy and Chuck to pass expanded unemployment insurance. You are the Democratic Party but you won’t tell the American People if you would pack the court, or even who you might nominate? You are the Democratic Party, will you apologize for the way you treated Justice Kavanaugh (or, for that matter, the way you personally treated Judge Bork and Justice Thomas?) You are the Democratic Party, then tell your people to shut down the riots and looting and the personal attacks. You are the Democratic Party? Then answer for the Russia Hoax, when everybody knows you and your party took loads of cash from Russia, Ukraine, China and elsewhere and then wasted 4 years investigating me. You get the picture. Once Biden said “I am the Democratic Party” I would have written that on the top of my note sheet and used it as the basis for every line of attack.

Don’t get me wrong, Trump got plenty of shots in; there are a lot of things to say! But he failed to hammer them home well imo. I think Trump just did a poor job communicating. He has done tremendous things and just did not really do the best job explaining his achievements to the American people. He got them in here and there like “you don’t trust Pfizer and JNJ” etc but then they got lost in the cross talk. Like I said the first segment he was right to push Biden hard to see if he would ‘gaffe’; but after that - just my opinion - Trump needed to come in with his own “talking points” well memorized and well elucidated.

The answer I wish he had given.

“You know, Chris, I have repeatedly condemned White Supremacy, starting in 2017, something Sleepy Joe is still lying about today. But they are not “my side”, and they don’t listen to me. I’ve condemned them so much, and fought them so much, that Richard Spencer, a known WS leader, actually endorsed my opponent Joe Biden. So me condemning them again won’t really help, maybe Biden could call him after he condemns the rioters who identify as antifa”

Two things I would like to see some news organization actually do for news.

First, I’d like to see them unwrap the debate, and simply give me each question, and the answers the two candidates gave, leaving out the interruptions by the opponent and the questioner.

My guess is that we’d find Biden hardly answered anything.

Second, I’d like to see an actual count of the number of seconds each of the three talked without anybody else speaking. My guess is, Chris Wallace might actually come in first; but it would be fun to see who actually got the most uninterrupted time.

Third, I’d like to see a count of how many times Wallace cut off an answer before the 2 minute time limit.

They knew what the six topics would be. Both of them had the chance to prepare 30-60 seconds of talking points on these subjects and then riffed from there. IMO Biden did better job of preparation to memorize his talking points, but many of his answers were evasions and worthless from a policy perspective. That Biden wouldn’t answer about packing the court was a huge opening, Trump did try to pin him down but Wallace interfered and let Biden off the hook.

I agree with you, Trump has been asked many times this same question. And he did try to say “finish the sentence” about ‘good people on both sides’ because Trump did condemn the racists at that Charlottesville event. But both Chris Wallace and Biden wouldn’t let him answer, and Trump went down the rabbit hole “who do you want me to condemn?”. Any fair analysis (and I re-watched the question) shows Trump said “sure” to the question of will he condemn white supremacists. The answer is pretty straight forward. Trump’s record is also pretty straight forward but for whatever reason - I think failure to prepare for the topics and failure to assert his accomplishment on this topic - Trump just couldn’t hammer it home. He’s the first president to propose naming the KKK a domestic terrorist organization. Why couldn’t he say that? Maybe he forgot, maybe all the cross talk pushed him off, or...? Yes, I condemn racism, I deplore the KKK, I also deplore the violence of Antifa and other groups promoting racial division. This is not that hard but the whole spectacle was really cringe worthy. As a Trump supporter and voter, I saw what he was trying to say but he just couldn’t deliver the knock out. That question alone should have been easy, and not answered with a question.

Two things I caught on replay of the debate last night, perfectly captioned the difference between Mom and Pop America and Socialism under Biden/Harris: First was when Trump was stuffing that burr under the saddle over Biden being ‘smart’. Rather than defend his alma mater and education/experience, Biden’s reaction was the juvenile delinquent ‘come-on dude bring it’ both hand gesture “let’s have that debate” while inviting street level violence rather than reply. The second stunner was another gesture and verbalization made during the “taxes” portion, which caught Biden invoking the Farsi phrase, ‘en shallah’, to interrupt Trump telling Wallace he had paid millions in taxes. Which described in 6 seconds each, the attitude of the far-left that Republicans can look forward to should Biden get anywhere near the Oval Office.

Juxtaposed with a vigenette of diner’s tables being overturned, Biden lost the election with those gestures. It’s up to us to put the emphasis on that picture.

Besides Biden’s continuing outrageous behavior and outbursts, are fatal statements such as that in response to Trump taking advantage of IRS rules. Biden stated he intended to eliminate ‘the Trump tax cuts’ (which have nothing to do with the IRS rules for corporate taxes)

I’m still going thru the replay, but so far Biden’s performance has been a gift that keeps on giving for Trump. He started it, but Trump will finish.

Go to work, my Deplorable FRiends.

Note that “Trump Tax Returns” was not one of the six topics. Neither was Charlottesville.
