How to Be an Anti-Intellectual: A lauded book about antiracism is wrong on its facts and in its assumptions.

How to Be an Antiracist, by Ibram X. Kendi (One World, 320 pp., $27.00)

In 2016, Ibram X. Kendi became the youngest person ever to win the National Book Award for Nonfiction. His surprise bestseller, Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas, cast him in his role as an activist-historian, ambitiously attempting to make 600 years of racial history digestible in 500 pages. In his follow-up, How to Be an Antiracist, Kendi––now 37, a Guggenheim fellow, and a contributing writer at The Atlantic––reveals his personal side, weaving together memoir, polemic, and instruction as he invites the reader to join him on the frontlines of what I like to call the War on Racism.

If the book has a core thesis, it is that this war admits of no neutral parties and no ceasefires. For Kendi, “there is no such thing as a not-racist idea,” only “racist ideas and antiracist ideas.” His Manichaean outlook extends to policy. “Every policy in every institution in every community in every nation is producing or sustaining either racial inequity or equity,” Kendi proclaims, defining the former as racist policies and the latter as antiracist ones.

Every policy? That question was posed to Kendi by Vox cofounder Ezra Klein, who gave the hypothetical example of a capital-gains tax cut. Most of us think of the capital-gains tax, if we think about it at all, as a policy that is neutral as regards questions of race or racism. But given that blacks are underrepresented among stockowners, Klein asked, would it be racist to support a capital-gains tax cut? “Yes,” Kendi answered, without hesitation.

It would be nice to ignore drivel such Kendi's book and DiAngelo's White Fragility, but they are the dogma believed by many Democratic politicans and educators. People who absorb this message become BLM and Antifa rioters. Our middle school principal recommended Kendi's book. A critical review by Anthony Daniels of both books is in the New Criterion.

It’s all about tribal black supremacy. The rest is “too many notes,” as the Emperor said to Mozart in the movie “Ammadeus.”

They really are asking people to choose up sides. You have to either be Pro-White or Pro-Black. No in-betweens.

I imagine they will get support from more than 13% of the population, but not really a whole lot more than 13%.

Poor strategy. All-or-nothing. And obviously most people will eventually be against you.

Capital Gains also applies to the sale of real estate.

Anyone who sells a house or building is also subject to capital gains taxes (with exception of the sale of your primary residence one time in your life).

The number of blacks subject to capital gains due to stock ownership should be growing as the number of employers offering 401K/403K plans is growing.

Superb review. Thanks for posting.

Sloppy books like this are like slowball pitches for great reviewers to knock out of the park. When they do it it’s beautiful to read.

When you cut through all his psuedo-intellectual bullsh*t this guy is just peddling the same old “disparate outcome” Marxism that Obama and Holder used to wreak so much havoc in America’s public schools and society.

Once upon a time I thought Islamists and Globalists were using each other as uneasy temporary allies against the Judeo-Christian West. I imagined that like the old USSR and German pact they’d conflict sooner or later, probably sooner.

In the last few years I have come to realize that they have merged ... the Islamists promote Marxist methods to establish authority and the Marxists use Muhammedan cover as their strategy of deflection by name calling (the infinite “ist” series of slanders).

Thus the pet groups of Democrats always get thrown under the bus for the Muhammedan to advance The Agenda ... case in point the Pulse nightclub shooting.

When that came to mind I then realized how long that’d been going on; Zero was not the first sign by.a long shot.

But the “over-educated masses” in the Oprah-NYTimes-LATimes-WashPo-Boston_Global-AJC trip all over themselves patting themselves on the back about this “Guggenheim Fellow - next Nobel Prize-Pulitzer Prize Winner latest hate-filled screed.

His lies BECOME the next “reality” - because they fit the narrative.
