...Only thirteen years after the passage of the destructive 16th and 17th Amendments, Coolidge deftly reminded Americans not to discard principles ...

Much of the damage to the original Constitution has been self inflicted by the amendments added. On the one hand the amendments added by the Republicans after their victory in the First Democrat-Republican War were needed to mend the original sin of slavery. Those amendments have done their job but unleashed a monstrous growth of Federal power that is now used by collectivists to attack liberty.

If Article V ever happens simply repealing these amendments would go a long way to restoring the Republic.

When the states appointed senators we were safe from the additional powers of the 13th-15th Amendments granted to congress .

The 17th Amendment did to federalism what the 13th Amendment did to slavery. Both are long-gone vestiges of our framing era. Tenth Amendment? States’ rights? Poof, and not only long-gone but neither slavery nor federalism can possibly return without repeal of their respective amendments.

A Different Take on Federalism Part I

Yes, very good point, an amendment banning baseline budgeting, mandating a balanced budget based always on the gold standard would be nice as well.
