Before getting to the meat of this story, I should probably start with a bit of disclosure. When I was younger, I used to play Dungeons and Dragons. I mean… I played it a lot. Probably obsessively. It started when I was in the Navy, but carried on well into my thirties. That fact is probably what later led me to become somewhat addicted to the online roleplaying game Everquest. So yes… I was one of those nerds.

ever notice in Star Trek the bad guys were always of a darker skin tone....Klingons and Romulans.I once figured out that the best method of overcoming Klingons was to use Bounce sheets.

Well, they’re technically Tolkien’s “evil” races, but Jackson put his own interpretation of them on the screen . . . but based on Tolkien’s obviously awful stereotypes . . .

Good. As players we mostly ignored that crap anyway. Playing “reformed Drow” is fun. Or half-orc knitter. Just makes a bigger world to roleplay in.

I say it’s about time! As a 3rd level Snow Elf cleric who identifies as a Quasit, I always felt that the “Chaotic Evil” label was the reason no-one would invite me to parties.

Actually it’s only surprise that this would eventually happen.
Consider these snippets from issue #63 of the Dragon Magazine, from an article entitled “... but not least: the Humanoids” (p.25 on)

Which pretty much describes those the DNC caters to and manipulates....
So of course they aren’t going to say monsters shouldn’t be called innately evil.
