The ‘Experts’ Were Wrong: Since 1995 the UK Has Seen Five Flu Seasons Worse Than Current Coronavirus Outbreak

Since 1995 the United Kingdom and Wales has had five flu seasons that were worse than the current coronavirus outbreak.

And yet there were no screaming headlines and no lockdowns.

Draconian lockdowns were not considered necessary back then.

And the previous flu outbreaks hit children and young adults.

Here’s my problem with the article — THEY ARE COMPARING DEATHS OVER A WHOLE YEAR FROM THE FLU WITH DEATHS FROM COVID-19 FOR JUST PART OF THE YEAR, 2020.

We aren’t even halfway through 2020 and the deaths we have in the USA from Covid-19 ( assuming we count the numbers correctly ) is already approaching 60,000.

One can just imagine what the mortality would be by the end of 2020.

I don’t know if that means much. There was no lockdown in those previous cases. So the argument can be made that without the lockdown, this current coronavirus outbreak would have been much worse.

The test case will be no-lockdown Sweden. How does this year compare to their previous flu seasons?

The virus is running out of people to kill... Senior citizens and the unhealthy are dwindling. And most are now being protected.

Yes. UK still has a lot more covid cases to come, as does the US. Comparing numbers now is meaningless.

“The test case will be no-lockdown Sweden. How does this year compare to their previous flu seasons?”

Even that comparison is treacherous. Using the logic of flattening the curve, one would expect the daily fatality rate in Sweden to be much higher then elsewhere for a short time, and then much lower for a long time after than. But the argument used to be that without lock downs, hospitals would be overwhelmed. Hasn’t happened there; so what’s the argument now?

"And yet there were no screaming headlines and no lockdowns [emphasis added]."

People are evidently not making the connection that lockdowns protect people from virus outbreaks.

One factor that’s being overlooked in virus outbreak versus lockdown controversies is social Darwinism imo.

Insights welcome.

Were the other flu death statistics compiled after 6 weeks of societal lockdown?

No? Then gee, I guess you’re wrong.

WuFlu got here in 2019.

The Emporer’s New Plague ain’t producing bodies commensurate with its panicked proponents.

Were deaths for those other years recorded as such so when anyone dies - its scored as a flu death?

If flubros infected only themselves or other flubros by going out and about (and others had the option to work from home) I'd be all for some Darwin action.

And yet the flubros have made a cottage industry out of vomiting up these meaningless comparisons.

And in the US outside of NY, doctors and nurses are being laid off or furloughed. And people are not getting the treatment for other things that they really need.

Your reading comprehension is severely lacking. They are comparing weeks 49 thru 15 (Dec 10 thru Apr 14) in all cases. Net mortality is lower in the previous 18 weeks than in at least five other similar periods.
