The original is the sales pitch for idiots, the update is the reality the idiots deserve if they get their way.
Lol!
I always hated it too. The denial of a god. Ugh!! As though life would be better without one!!
I despised the Beatles, but I could conceal that and make this work. At that time, I was already a gigging musician, so I had that going for me.
When Lennon was shot, she was completely devastated. I don't think she even went to school for two weeks. I tried to 'comfort' her, to no avail.
30+ years later, she actually went to London to attend William and Kate's wedding. Posted a whole bunch of pictures on her Facebook page. She's still cute.
Here an anti-atheistic one, from a few years back:
Imagine, oh John Lennon
What happens when you die
If there's no hell or heaven
Nothing above but sky.
Imagine all the people
Living without hope.
Some folks say you're a dreamer
I know I'm not the only one.
Too bad you can't join us.
'Cause where you are (now)
Can't be that fun.

National Lampoon’s fictional
Letters FROM the Editors, after
John’s death:
Dear Sirs: Imagine no possessions?
What a terrible, terrible thought.
—Yoko Ono, New York City
Love. It. Clap, clap, clap!
Oh shoot, I almost made a day without hearing something about the Beetles- darn. It’s a very hard thing to do. ;^)
damn, sounds like you dodged a bullet on that one...
hot/crazy matrix in action
Usually I don't listen to the words of songs - can't understand them.
But that one I really hated. Because I heard the words
he thought he was god
100%
I nominated Shaving Cream which actually did reach the Billboard Top 40 back then. Of course, I was outvoted by "Time In a Bottle" and "Colour My World".
I first heard Imagine in the early 80’s and liked it, but didn’t really delve into the meaning. I kind of found John Lennon with the Double Fantasy album, especially the Beautiful Boy soundtrack as I had my first son around that same time.
Many years later, when I realized that “Imagine” was basically a communist manifesto, I was like WTHeck?? Maybe I am a slow learner lol. I’m just not a groupie, so wasn’t paying attention to the whole Lennon as a commie revelation.
I probably needed to be paying more attention back then....
Bump
Me too! I hated that stupid song the first time I heard
it and I don’t even think I was as politically
conservative as I am now. Lennon was a dipshit, too.
I’ve got a friend who was an original member of a
band called the Turtles. They toured Britain and were
introduced to the Beatles at a night club by Graham
Nash. Lennon was a drunk, insulting asshat. My
friend never held it against him but I never liked
Lennon before or after that, anyway.
Official theme song of the Bernie campaign?
Mine was freak out!
i remember them, so happy together...
