Kobe Bryant Was The NBA’s Last Apolitical Superstar

Over the course of Kobe’s 20-year-long career, he remained consistently silent on political issues, in a way that by the time of his retirement seemed wildly anachronistic. Bryant’s apolitical attitude reflected the individual-focused, Jordan-era status quo in which he entered the league, but it eventually made him out of step with his younger counterparts, who have largely taken up the activist mantle of older icons like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. Today’s NBA stars are eager not only to use their platform to amplify political and social causes, but to establish activism as a responsibility in its own right, as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and others did at the ESPY Awards in 2016. Even prominent head coaches like Steve Kerr and Gregg Popovich—who are demographically more likely to be Trump supporters than liberal agitators—have earned reputations for speaking out against police shootings and the Trump administration in the bluntest terms…

You have some vested interest in this, it appears— and you are simply wrong. The case was reviewed among clinical professionals, and the settlement was sealed, but not unknown to the ME and law enforcement internally and bound by tenets of the settlement. TMZ or the gutter press are certainly not accurate sources, wherever the hell people got the idea it never happened, and however much the PR a@@clown flacks for Bryant tried to hide it. For their “vested interest” as in- keeping their sorry job.

Back to whatever it is that drives you. Neither the time or interest to disabuse you of tiresome smug self righteousness.

Thanks for also looking at the facts in this case.

I didn’t know what to believe myself, until I read more about the case.

Tag team-— think it through, both of you have zero facts, which were and are in this individual’s case, quite sticky commodities. Nevertheless gravity and physics played a serious role in unfortunate demise. He can talk to his Maker. It is far more tragic about his little girl.

Impossible to know what really happened in that room. Looks to me like they both parties made errors in judgement. Both paid for their mistakes and moved on. We should do the same.

I’m “driven” by the idea that we should give Bryant the same benefit of the doubt we give President Trump. It’s quite hypocritical to ignore the serial issues Trump has had with women while indicting Bryant for one incident in his early adulthood. That is all.

Thank you.

Restrictions on expression of opinion here are especially interesting these days.

Many thanks for standing up.

I can’t stand bullying at FR.

both of you have zero facts

The DNA evidence was clear. If the facts supported your argument, I would be making the argument you're making.

Now nine people have perished, including three young girls. One little girl has lost everyone - her parents and her sister. It's a sad situation, all around.

Hang tough. The 2016 attack “strategy” at FR is in play again.

Our domestic enemies will lose again in November.

Not too sure he *was* a Democrat, but the ass-licking worship around here is revolting. He was just another privileged POS pro athlete.

Same answer to the article with sources when it was published Feb. 1, that drew all the bullying here:

HORSECLINTON!!!!

“Kobe Bryant said he would kneel for national anthem if he were still playing”

The Kob has some serious defenders here willing to overlook all this and attack, because, after all, it was WAY BACK in 2017.

Here’s THAT thread for all the sanctimonious intolerance and anger:
