Modernists are trying to reverse trends in cultural-heritage preservation by subtle interventions in several key conservation standards of the European Union. Writing from Norway, Audun Engh of the International Network for Traditional Building, Architecture & Urbanism (INTBAU) warned me today that the modernists plan to introduce recommendations that modernism (contemporary design) should be a required style for new construction at EU-funded cultural-heritage sites.
modernism produces the most UGLY buildings possible.
Thanks to modernists, ugliness pervades all aspects of art—architecture, painting, sculpture, music, and so on.
Last October, I visited the Hirshhorn Museum of modern art in Washington, DC. Just about everything on display there was pure garbage.
Read your tag line. What about chasing it?
Another reason why for my Catholic re-awakeniing.
*~* Beauty *~* especially of old Europe.
The art.
The churches and cathedrals...
The inspiration.
The eternal and invisible.
The church bells...
The music...and voices of choirs of angels...echoing through earth.
Take a gander at the new De Young Museum in San Francisco. Brutal, cold, soul-sucking “architecture” hailed by Leftists. It honestly looks like a rusted shell of some other building. I visited with a lefty friend a few years ago (who has subsequently gone completely off the deep end...). I was literally aghast at seeing the thing. He, I thought strangely at the time, really really really liked it.
Darn minarets obscuring the view.
Brutalism lives.
Like that ####ing Horrible, Horrible needle-like building in downtown Manhattan that they DARE call the WTC.
I worked in 2 WTC in the 90s.
They were beautiful and majestic and awe inspiring.
This, sir, is no WTC.
Metal kitchen cabinets, tube metal chairs with vinyl seats and backrests, Formica, Linoleum, and hanging-bead room dividers were also ‘modern’ at one time.
To be fair there have been way worse popes throughout history...and only two times that a pope has made in infallible statement ex cathedral ...this current pope has not made any such statements. His points may be considered authoritative and prescriptive, but not infallible.
Ex cathedra*** sorry typo

Just got back from Scotland in September. Loved the old architecture in Edinburgh, Inverness, and what was left of it in Glasgow. Apparently they had torn down a lot of the older architecture in Glasgow and put up glass and steel in the 70s until someone put a stop to it. Was strange seeing the glass and steel buildings sandwiched in between the original buildings
In my opinion, the ugliest building in Los Angeles is the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral, the headquarters of the Catholic diocese of Los Angeles that was built in the 1990’s. However another Catholic house of worship, the Church of Our Savior, which houses the Caruso Catholic Center at the University of Southern California is quite beautiful. It was built early in this century in a Romanesque Revival style and looks like it was built hundreds of years ago.
