modernism produces the most UGLY buildings possible.
Thanks to modernists, ugliness pervades all aspects of art—architecture, painting, sculpture, music, and so on.
Last October, I visited the Hirshhorn Museum of modern art in Washington, DC. Just about everything on display there was pure garbage.
Darn minarets obscuring the view.
Brutalism lives.
Like that ####ing Horrible, Horrible needle-like building in downtown Manhattan that they DARE call the WTC.
I worked in 2 WTC in the 90s.
They were beautiful and majestic and awe inspiring.
This, sir, is no WTC.
Metal kitchen cabinets, tube metal chairs with vinyl seats and backrests, Formica, Linoleum, and hanging-bead room dividers were also ‘modern’ at one time.
Just got back from Scotland in September. Loved the old architecture in Edinburgh, Inverness, and what was left of it in Glasgow. Apparently they had torn down a lot of the older architecture in Glasgow and put up glass and steel in the 70s until someone put a stop to it. Was strange seeing the glass and steel buildings sandwiched in between the original buildings
In my opinion, the ugliest building in Los Angeles is the Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral, the headquarters of the Catholic diocese of Los Angeles that was built in the 1990’s. However another Catholic house of worship, the Church of Our Savior, which houses the Caruso Catholic Center at the University of Southern California is quite beautiful. It was built early in this century in a Romanesque Revival style and looks like it was built hundreds of years ago.
