Who Was It That Called Journalists “Useful Idiots”

There’s so much out there that I occasionally lose track of some of my favorites, like Daniel Greenfield. This is his latest from Frontpage Magazine: WASHINGTON POST: AMERICANS BELIEVING THE MEDIA IS A “PATRIOTIC”* DUTY:

Margaret Sullivan has been melting down for a while. But this meltdown, as the public backs further away from impeachment, is truly glorious.

“I don’t know what to believe’ is an unpatriotic cop-out. Do better, Americans.” – Washington Post

We’re in Bertolt Brecht territory here. Time to replace the people with a people the media approve of. Open borders for everyone.

More from Sullivan:

If every American did any two of the following things, the “who knows?” club could be swiftly disbanded. Subscribe to a national newspaper and go beyond the headlines into the substance of the main articles; subscribe to your local newspaper and read it thoroughly — in print, if possible; watch the top of “PBS NewsHour” every night; watch the first 15 minutes of the half-hour broadcast nightly news; tune in to a public-radio news broadcast;…

If you’re pressed for time because you just realized there’s only 24 days (that’s just a smidge over 3 weeks!) till Christmas I’ll cut right to the chase: Margaret Sullivan thinks it’s your patriotic duty to accept and internalize without question the agitprop that she and her ilk churn out. And she gets mad at you when you don’t.

First, the media barrages the public with hysterical clickbait. And then whines when the inevitable apathy sets in.

"How dare you ignore me when I keep screaming at you?"

Kind of reminds me of someone…oh yeah:

How dare you!?

If you allow me to substitute an entire NPR broadcast for PBS (functionally equivalent), I used to do that for years. It did confirm my thinking, that the lefties are lying baby-killers.

Dunno who said it, but they were right. I think I’ve said it a few times.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

To WaPo:

Oh, so now YOU are lecturing US on being ‘unpatriotic’? Wow, what unmitigated arrogance. I DO know who to believe .... and it’s NOT the enemedia, in all the forms it exists (cable, print, radio, etc). I AM doing better with sources OTHER than you, WaCompost .... you & your Dem/Leftist puppet buddies up to your eyeballs in and complicit with subversion/coup crimes against our duly elected president, America & ‘we the people’. (’YELLING’ intentional).

As a side note to this thread consider this. Once Democratic (Surprise!) federal representatives William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer, competing publishers and 1%ers, were pioneers of yellow journalism (1890s), now known as fake news.

We're not learning from our mistakes.

Corrections, insights welcome.

Anyone who thinks liberal 'elites' wouldn't put us in 're-education' camps is nuts. This recommendation is group-think on a level that would make Gobbles blush...

The phrase "useful idiots" first appeared in the western press in an Italian socialist periodical in 1948.

There are libraries filled with books quoting Joseph Stalin to have used the phrase but those quotes are all third-hand ... or worse. Despite its profusion, the Stalin connection is refuted in the book "They Never Said It: A Book of Fake Quotes, Misquotes and Misleading Attributions."

On the bright side, English TV host Jeremy Clarkson ripped Little Mizz Sunshine a new anal sphincter:

SORRY MS THUNBERG

I’m sorry Ms Thunberg, but if you’re going to lay into my generation, you must accept it when I lay into you and yours.

What about the pills you take when you have a headache?

What about the clean water that comes out of your tap? What about the food you can buy at any time of the day and night?

No 16-year-old was responsible for any of that.

What about the aid missions currently being run in some of the poorest countries of the world, or the drugs that help keep Aids at bay?

Think about all the movies you’ve enjoyed. Movies made by grown-ups. And all those comedians who’ve made you laugh.

And then pause for a moment to consider how soundly you sleep at night, knowing that adults are building and servicing and flying Sweden’s fighter planes. To keep you safe.

We gave you mobile phones and laptops and the internet. We created the social media you use every day and we run the banks that pay for it all.

So how dare you stand there and lecture us, you spoilt brat. SPOILT BRAT

And yes, you are spoilt because when you told your mum and dad to stop using planes and give up meat, they didn’t behave like sane parents and ignore you. They actually said, “Yes, dear.” And did.

What they should have done is point out that life is tragic.

Some people are born bright and some are born stupid.

Some are beautiful and some are not.

Some have rich parents who give them everything but love.

Some have poor parents who have nothing to give except love.

Now shut up and let them get on with it.

This is how the world works. It’s how the world has always worked.

And banging your fists on the table won’t change a thing. You’ll learn that when you’ve got a few more years under your belt.

I agree with you that the world is heating up. You may even be right that man has something to do with it.

And there is no doubt that as deserts eat into currently habitable places in Africa and the Middle East, Europe will face an unimaginable refugee crisis.

Something needs to be done about that. So how’s this for an idea. Get back to school as quickly as possible and work hard in your science lectures.

Because science is what will solve the problem eventually. Not scowling and having screaming ab-dabs every five minutes.

Many thousands of people who you had the temerity to blame this week are trying to do exactly what you want.

So be a good girl, shut up and let them get on with it.

And no. You cannot stay out past ten. And you cannot go out in a skirt that short.
