... He said the Board of Supervisors was trying to address complaints mostly from new residents in the area who get a little perturbed when people are banging away at night, but longtime residents werent having it.
Some people move here from Manhattan and places like that, to restore a farmhouse and such. But its rural here, with a tradition of hunting, fishing, NRAyou name it.
The people complaining maybe shouldnt have moved here because its like that.....

We live in a rural section of N.J. Yesterday in mid afternoon we could hear a lot of gunfire coming from private property. There was even some full auto fire.
Yes I said NEW JERSEY. There are actually some relatively free areas here where no one bothers you and you can shoot on your own property. Safely.
North east Jersey, north west Jersey, the shore, south Jersey are like seperate States.. Heck separate countries even! Heh.
There is a huge segment of the population tbat can’t handle gunfire in the distance. Im not talking ptsd, Im talking about city slickers who have never handled a weapon and never heard one go off that wasn’t followed by police sirens. We live in rural maryland and our neighborhood page has people who moved here from urban areas that are always asking “ whats all the gun fire, what are they doing? Why are they shooting? Arent they too close? (we live near a ri er and the sound travels a looong way. ) etc. So its very real, A LOT OF PEOPLE GET THIER KNOWLEDGE OF GUNS AND GuN LAWS FROM TV. And most of it is wrong
Cityslickers get freaked- out by anything in the natural world.. especially flying insects.. Heh.
One board meeting, we had a new resident, who was from New York, come to the meeting complaining of the smell and flies from the dumpster next to his house.
He wanted the HOA to move the dumpster to another location. They were placed in permanent enclosures that had been approved by the city in the original design. Moving them was not possible.
He didn't seem to understand the he picked his home's location next to the dumpster himself and that's why it was priced lower than many other units.
In real estate it's all location, location, location.
He eventually moved out but couldn't sell the unit because of a soft market (and the dumpster) so he had to rent it.
It struck the board the gall of the man for wanting the rest of the world to change when he didn't like it.
Arizona and New York values couldn't be further apart.
According to my cousin that was a regular Sunday event........LOL!
My Cousin is a retired Gunnery Sgt and NRA Pistol Instructor He has a nice pistol range on his property. Sometimes we have a bottle shoot off, 2 rows of 5 bottles, you must shoot all of yours before you can poach on the other guys. One with the most bottles shot stays at the firing line for the next round, kind of like keeping the pool table. With two people doing rapid pistol fire, it does sound like a machine gun. No one complains.
Personally, I wish that ALL of the insufferably arrogant & ignorant LEFTIST “city kitties”, who are moving into Texas, would JUST LEAVE & GO BACK to wherever they came from.

In Cape May County we love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.
Same here in rural CT. We can hear gunshots many miles away.
My rescue dog flunked hunting school because he was terrified by gun-fire.
But all is good—he jumps in our lap when he is afraid. ;-)
We old timers have to keep showing up beating them back at the townhall meetings and in essence telling to either get used to it or consider selling out and moving back to the big city where they came from.
And fricking make-believe lying Hollywood
Its separate universes. They should all just go live together like the rats in boxes they are.
Did lots of target shooting on hunting club properties in and around the Jersey Pine Barrens. Also did some turkey shoots too in Cumberland and Atlantic Counties.
Growing up on the Detroit River, fall waterfowl season brought thousands of dawn shotgun blasts magnified over the open water. My sisters visiting from CA had a quick re-acquaintance with their birthplace waking up early dawn to a couple dozen shots in quick sequence from multiple hunters. Especially since you could shoot 500’ off shore.
Our local hardware just added a liquor section...so now it’s a hardware/gun store/liquor store with beer and hard liquor. What else could you need running errands? My duck hunting classmates took their shotguns to school on the bus in the early and mid-70’s and kept them in the principal’s office until they got out and jumped over the riverbank to start hunting.
I'm afraid one day, they will run off after hearing the sound, *Dad, why didn't you take me with you?
Here in the NEK [Northeast Kingdom - northern Vermont] no one cares what you do on your property. I mean NO ONE.
Everyone leaves each other alone. It’s nice. Very nice. :)
*I’m living the dream.* :)
I just watched an episode on 48 hours that dealt with this problem. A couple from the city moved out to rural Tennessee. The family across the street had a small gun business out back on their property. They liked to fire new inventory and their own guns on their property. It was a legal and safe. The new neighbors started a war over the guns and the target shooting. It got so bad that the father shot and killed the new neighbor from the city. He said it was to protect his son from attack but they charged him with murder. The city guy was threatening his kid constantly. It was just a matter of time before it turned deadly.
I know in Texas you must have a certain amount of acreage to discharge a firearm. I could be wrong, but I think it’s ten acres.
