They have already put into office an ineligible usurper TWICE!

Obama was born a British subject/Kenyan national WHEREVER he was born.
Anyone born with more than ONE nationality is NOT naturally an American.

Hopefully the number of RINOs who would vote to convict is much smaller. Manchin did not win by very much so he might vote to acquit given the flimsiness of the articles that Schiff and Nadler will come up with. (Removing the President from office for hosting a G-7 meeting at his own resort?)

At this point I think Trump will be re-elected unless the Deep State decides to eliminate him physically. The CIA passed up a chance to have him killed in Dallas...that might have caused people to re-examine what happened in 1963. With characters like McRaven calling for Trump to be removed from office immediately, some person in the FBI, Secret Service, or the military might decide it's his patriotic duty to see to it.

Trump’s loyal base is already riled up, as we could see by the numbers that showed up for the Texas rally. 22,000 inside the venue, and an additional 25,000 outside! That’s just one city in one state. Extrapolate and you have a massive win for Trump in 2020.

The key take away is that all 3 branches of government, including the two chambers of Congress (effectively, 4 branches in total), in combination with two major factions, are usually so fractious and argumentative that nothing ever really gets done.

Of course, that's exactly the way the founders designed the system. The only time all branches/parties come together in agreement - a very rare occurrence - is typically a result of either a major existential crisis (Pearl, 9/11) or huge public movement (prohibition, suffrage, voting rights, etc). So when we consider the likelihood of an actual impeachment conviction lacking either a crime and/or misdemeanor, something obviously would be highly suspect.

And that 'obviously' would most likely include, but would not be limited to, potential disclosures of election interference, deep state treason and public corruption by convicting parties. Any/all of these elements would unite the disparate groups by providing a driving desire and rationale to excise the threat of their revelation(s). So, in this case, Trump would actually be faced with a true threat of a coup from organized domestic enemies of the people.

Now, let's flip the analysis around and examine it from the plotters' perspective. What if Trump responds by calling out the state militias, ordering military forces to occupy certain key strategic positions, suspends Congress and fully engages to the enemy? (By the way, all precedents established by Lincoln 160 years ago.) Even worse, what if the Trump forces prevail and win?

Well, for one we'd be operating under a continuity of government (CoG) declaration. That means that certain constitutional provisions could be suspended/voided during the period of national security activity. OK, everyone, can we all say 22nd amendment? That's right, welcome dictator Trump. And under dictator Trump, just like during the reconstruction period, all kinds of interesting constitutional amendments, court appointments and legislative action could take place, forever cementing (at least for 100 years) a legacy of this time.

Think Congress is willing to go there? Or Trump?

I wonder about Cruz. All the friendly bantering back and forth at the rally last night, betw. the prez and Cruz. Made it appear that they are friends and allies now?

I saw it another way and was gritting my teeth. I took it as Trump taunting Cruz. (Funny how people can see things totally opposite.)

Oh, it's not impossible. Not at all.

It's tough to predict the future when there are so many forks in the road, and (to mix metaphors) so many moving parts.

They've not yet voted out any form of impeachment. Any vote to this point lost. So it's not 100% that we'll have articles voted out.

We have a political dog and pony show. Just as with the Mueller circus it's a 'tribunal' in search of a crime.

The press conference with Mick Mulvaney underlines the attempt by the Lying Media to gaslight anything related to Ukraine. They breathlessly report on the 'corruption' yet when one looks at Mulvaney's actual words it doesn't compute.

I think we've reached a tipping point. Increasingly those not already Trump supporters realize something is rotten. It's not just the policies the left pushes, it's the cultural fascism. The Left is losing support.

So it's all about the balance. Who knows...and don't forget, we're also players.

Your scenario is not at all impossible.

As I've said before, it's an election with 100 voters, Trump vs. Pence. Whoever said there were 35 GOP votes for removal if it was a secret ballot wasn't lying.

Did you see my vanity over here?

THe same methods used to remove Nixon are at work again, with the same actors.

The trial will allow Trump to mount his defense

Don't look for favorable rulings from John Roberts, who will be in the chair for the "trial".

If your scenario pans out and Trump is convicted and removed from office

The Senate also has the power to bar a convicted President from holding "any office of trust or profit under the United States" in the future.

Chief Justices serve until they resign, are impeached and convicted, retire, or die.

Bummer.

You raise an interesting perspective, from my view, the present impeachment scenario from Congress’ point of view is not well thought out. We end up with President Pence. I consider the likelihood of a second impeachment very low so this is where it would end. The Dems probably believe they can defeat Pence at the polls. If this came to pass, in my opinion Trump would leave peacefully.

From the standpoint of Trump, I have considered it so unlikely that he would be removed from office that he likely has not considered asking the military to help him. With the coup being done so clandestinely, I am not certain the military would get involved. I also do not see that Trump has actually engaged in more intrigue than what a President is expected do with regard to foreign policy. That is stand up for our country and of course this can lead to the acquisition that this effort has improved his chances of re-election. As Mulvaney said, this is done all the time. “get used to it”. He was right. If Trump is removed from office without the people ever seeing evidence of wrongdoing, then the population as a whole has an option.

More likely to me is the scenario played out in Enemies Foreign and Domestic, or Unintended Consequences. In this case the country ends up locked in violence and it does not look good for the Republic ever finding its feet again.

The question raised by these thoughts is why would one half of the country want to go to this extreme? But it looks like they do want to go there.

Your point is that things were very corrupt in the Obama administration, and I agree. I have hope that this will see the light of day, but depending on how corrupt the entire government is, we may not find out. However, Obama is a sunk cost with respect to supporting and keeping President Trump in office.
