We can stop mass shootings without restricting Second Amendment liberties

It is often said by people of all political persuasions, and certainly by my fellow conservatives, that the primary duty of the federal government is to keep us safe.

The problem is, that's not true. The founding documents, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and especially the Federalist Papers, make it clear that the primary duty of the federal government is the preservation of liberty, not safety.

~~SNIP~~

In the church my family attends, we adapted after a threat. There is now armed security scattered throughout the congregation, in the sanctuary, in the lobby, and even on the platform. Air transportation obviously adapted after 9/11, with added airport security and air marshals on flights.

It's time to adapt to the era of mass shootings. Every school, every church, every large retailer and every government facility should have armed, obvious guards at all entrances. We don't need to force teachers to take up arms, we simply need ever-present, trained, armed security in schools. This is now the cost of protecting our children and of protecting the public.

“If all these big store now want people to conceal arms, then they need 2 armed guards at the least, who are obviously not in very close proximity to each other because a shooter can just blow the head off of the guard at the door.”

That’s why we need lots of good guys open carrying everywhere.
If there are too many people with guns to be able to kill then there will be no point to trying to take out the guards.

“It’s a lot cheaper to simply let whoever wants to carry carry.”

Agreed. The problem is not mass murderers. They’re going to be around.

The problem has always been and always will be (until national constitutional carry), insufficient return fire.

Yes, and we don’t need to turn over security to the rent a cop process that decides that the armed guard skill set is weak and does not include marksmanship, combat orientation, dedication to the safety of those under protection, and the rest of the things that are typical when a symbolic gesture is made instead of the real article.

This goes for the conceal carry crowd, is your skill set adequate?

"Every school, every church, every large retailer and every government facility should have armed, obvious guards at all entrances."

In many cities, off-duty police are happy to provide security for clients. Government at various levels would also be happy to increase police forces to accommodate the new paradigm and keep the common, middle class riff-raff from continuing to provide the security and put everyone at risk. So you see, third world holes around the Equator already have long experience in such matters. They had the answer for us all along.

Half of the answer is already in place and situating: concealed carry for all competent and willing people. The other half of the answer would be to get those drug busts going. Crack the whip! Get it done! If you see something, investigate and take notes. Demand action.

Never. Train, and train some more. Never good enough. Learn about the laws, too.

There are about 5,000 Walmart stores in the United States. Compare that to the number of mass murders with firearms in Walmart stores (one? very few?). How long would the fashion commando security guards be standing in front of all of those stores? What would the cost be per year?

Yes, they can. They do not want to do so.

We had gun clubs in public schools in the 1950s and 1960s, without any school shootings.

1. Restore God and Prayer to the schools.

2. Reverse Roe v. Wade, and outlaw the abortion Pill.

You asked for feedback; that is mine.

The Frankfurt School instituted spiritual and moral degradation through these governmental mandates.

It has nothing per se to do with guns - much less which kinds of guns - being in the hands of We The People for whom the Bill of Rights were drafted.

Wsit a minute. Not concealing is putting yourself into a similar situation as the guard. Not open carrying is no loss.

Every person who thinks of himself or herself as a gun rights supporter should start carrying everywhere, all the time, today.

This will stop the shootings and preserve our rights.

Bullshit. Ten or a hundred times as many normal citizens need to start carrying NOW.

Feedback: it’s complete bullshit that does NOTHING to assert our rights.

Ten or a hundred times as many regular citizens need to start conceal-carrying NOW.

The mass shootings will stop.

You have it exactly right. That is the answer. It will accomplish two things simultaneously:
1. it will start to stem the tide of these insane shooters
2. it will assert our rights in a big way and create good 2A stories

Gun people. START CARRYING or LOSE IT.

Get rid of gun free zones.

Lock up the criminally insane.

“Open, why?”

So the bad guys no they will get return fire and from too many people to just try and take out the guys with guns first.

It also helps to counter the demonization of guns by acclimatizing the public to seeing them.

"Speedy trial and quick public execution of murders."

Number three would make all the difference in the world.. Problem is, the stinking lawyers... They make a fortune off the state defending the scum.. And, of course most all politicians are lawyers...
