All standards of journalism were gone from the mainstream news media a long time ago.
Remember when truth--truth for its own sake--and the duty to inform the public honestly, of prime importance to representative government, were paramount?
When did shaping public opinion become the objective? It was then that journalism degenerated into propaganda.
