Vanity: DC Statehood Compromise
Self ^ | 7/12/2019 | Self

How about instead of giving D.C. statehood, we just allow them to annex Montgomery and PG Counties MD and Fairfax County VA.

These three counties surround D.C.. D.C. gets some more power, which is all they want anyway, and the DPRM and VA get to shed some commie territory (though FFX is not as extreme as the other two, at least not yet).

They should give back the parts of DC which were ceded by Maryland originally, and let them vote in Maryland.

Then they will have full Congressional representation as part of the state of Maryland. There is no need to make DC a state to give them congressional representation.

This is D.C. Annexing counties instead of becoming a state.

Actually, this is a brilliant idea!

Make DC a state, but only if it includes all the surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia.

All these counties are overwhelmingly democrat, and being the largest populations in their respective states, currently swing the votes of the rest of Maryland and Virginia, like Philadelphia and Chicago do in their states.

Yes, the Democrats get two guaranteed senators in DC, and 4 to 6 guaranteed congressmen in the new state of Wavimar.

But they lose 4 now currently democrat senators in the remaining parts of Virginia and Maryland, and lose democrat-gerrymandered congressional seats in the rest of Virginia and Maryland.

Net gain - two Republican senators and 2-4 Republican congressman.

I’m on board!
Statehood for Wavimar!!

Exactly.

The parts of the District in Virginia were already returned to Virginia.

We should bulldoze official D.C. and start a new 10 mile square captiol in someplace even worse ... maybe north of the Arctic Circle?

Congress should disband the current city governement and re-assert it’s proper control of the city.

No statehood for DC.

I like that approach. Maybe the enabling law should say that any city with more than 5 million people becomes a mini-state, along with its surrounding area. But then of course the rest of the state continues on as it used to, free of the politics, voters, and liberal idiocy of the city.

And then perhaps the voters can eject those city states from the country...

My idea is to consider MD and DC a single entity for federal electoral purposes.

Pros:
1) the left would lose approximately 2 electoral votes. (-3 for DC and approximately +1 for MD).

Conns:
1) the left would gain approximately 1 House seat.
2) the left would solidify their control of MDs 2 Senate seats.

On its face this looks like a good deal for the left. However, they would argue that:
1) they already have solid control of MD’s 2 Senate seats, so who cares.
2) the expression “approximately 1” obscures the fact that DC is actually quite small and is probably closer to 0.5 seat than 1.0 seat. At one time when the population of DC was actually close to one House seat, this might have been a good deal for the rats.

I agree. The ‘Taxation Without Representation” license plates from the DC grifters are annoying, but giving them a couple of senators so long as all of the blue counties around them are fenced in, sounds good to me!

Absolutely. A federal district can be created including most if not all govt buildings and facilities, leaving the rest, from upper crust Georgetown to lower caste Anacostia as Washington City Maryland. Md.gains a couple of congressman so the question of representation becomes moot. Although I would suppose that the Dems in Balt might be upset at having to share power with the newby Dems.

Yeah, not going to happen. The VA and MD counties surrounding DC are some of the richest in either state. Dems in the states wouldn’t want to loose them for economic and political reasons. Republicans in MD don’t want DC voting with them...it’ll wipe them out. And DC CANNOT become a state with two senators. The best situation is the one we have now.

There are no republicans left in Maryland, save for two counties at the extremes.

The District of Columbia was created so that no state had the capital of the United States located in their territory.... I believe there is a federal law that says the district can NEVER become a state......
