On the 4th of July, Hugh Culverhouse, Jr. is calling for people to sing God Bless America, not whistle Dixie in a paid advertisement in the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.
Culverhouse submitted the ad in an attack on Alabamas recent abortion ban.
In enacting this law, Alabama is treating women as possessions rather than equal citizens with the inalienable right to control their bodies, he wrote.
In the letter, Culverhouse calls for, Americans to fight back and join me in opposing this unconstitutional and immoral law by all means possible.
Parents should not send their children to any school, university or college in Alabama, he wrote. Corporations and businesses operating in Alabama need to show that they care about the rights of their employees by boycotting the state until its government overturns this unconstitutional and barbaric law. All Americans should make the cost of this illegal and unjust law felt in local and state economies, by refusing to buy any product or service originating there.
Last month, the University of Alabamas board of trustees voted to return Culverhouses $21.5 million donation to the university, one week after he called for a boycott of the school and state over the new abortion ban.
University of Alabama vice chancellor for communications Kellee Reinhart said, The action taken by the Board today was a direct result of Mr. Culverhouses ongoing attempts to interfere in the operations of the Law School. That was the only reason the Board voted to remove his name and return his money. Any attempt by Mr. Culverhouse to tie this action to any other issue is misleading and untrue.
Reinhart on Tuesday said UA does not have any comment on Culverhouses ad in the Wall Street Journal.
Culverhouse said hes received over 200 emails in response to the ad as of Tuesday afternoon and hes spent the day responding to them. He said about 20% of the responses are violently opposed to his view and some have sent death threats.
I want people who agree and disagree to reach me, Culverhouse said. Once we start a dialogue, its incredible what we find in common if we work together and not just start with abortion.
Looks like Hugh Culverhouse found a use for that money UA sent back to him. Full page. WSJ. #alpolitics pic.twitter.com/5ybHimqngi
How many children did democrats sanction to be murdered today ?
Everybody homeschool? I’m for that.
I saw the ad in the Journal. The guy was dumb enough to put his email address in it. I was offended by the ad although I don’t live in Alabama.
“In enacting this law, Alabama is treating women as possessions rather than equal citizens with the inalienable right to control their bodies, he wrote.”
Nope but abortion supporters are treating babies as possessions that can be disposed of as desired.
Everyone in this country should be offended by this pompous pos and exceptionally proud of the Trustees of the University of Alabama who told him to take his 20 millions and shove it. Tyrannical Tycoons like him have bought their way into too many schools in this country, one of the reasons we have leftist faculties and stupid graduates.
