Nolte: Four Mega-Franchises and a Woke Lecture Die at the Box Office
Breitbart ^ | 6/28/19 | John Nolte

Posted on 06/28/2019 11:50:59 AM PDT by Impala64ssa

This weekend’s box office wiped out two franchises, cemented the failure of two others, and mercy-killed one of those woke entries only pompous critics adore. We’ll start with Men in Black: International, which is doing even worse than those already-dire predictions of $30 million. Deadline reports this stinker will open to a pathetic $25 million, which is less than half of what all three of its predecessors opened to. Even the 22-year-old original launched with $51 million in 22-year-old dollars.

As I mentioned in my review, MIB4 has no swagger, no sex appeal, and no laughs; just a confusing story, bad special effects, and a bland leading man who is treated like an imbecile because he’s white and hetero and we must now grovel before the woke.

But when I saw the trailer for this-third-movie-called-Shaft — you gotta be kidding me. This is like turning the James Bond franchise into a musical, or Tootsie 2 into a psychological thriller, or Caddyshack 3 into a monster movie

What in the world was Warner Bros. thinking?

A franchise about a “bad mother-shut-your-mouth” is now The Aging Bickersons.

John Shaft, the John Shaft (The Mighty Richard Roundtree), the original bad mother-shut-your-mouth is now Bad Grandpa?

There’s a fan base for this brand. Back in 2000, Shaft opened to $22 million and I would have happily stood in line to watch Roundtree take his iconic character into 2019, but that trailer was flat-out depressing.

Shame on everyone.

On their first return album, they had the line “that right-wing hooey sure stunk up the joint.” When we went to see the Dan, these tailgaters had a sign that said “Right-wing hooey-free zone.” As we walked through, my friend said, “Not right now, it’s not!” Fortunately, the show never got political.

I’m with you...

I went to see “Wonder Woman” on a lark at a vacation spot.

The only thing I remember is the Israeli could fight all right, but Wonder Woman is American, so the lack of patriotism showed. I was disgusted.

And that was a couple of years ago now.

Hwood sells to international audiences now. Good luck with that.

Will Smith as James West was absurdly embarassing, and a harbinger of PeeCee propaganda to follow.

That was Fawcett. DC sued for property theft of their Superman and won.

The Marvel male was Kree Mar-Vell, in 1967. Carol Danvers dates from 1968, and became essentially a female Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, in 1977, after which Mar-Vell died - that was over 40 years ago. This was not a modern contrivance. (Stan Lee was always a leftist, and he and his pals named her after Ms. Magazine.)

The worst problem with the movie was turning the evil invading Skrulls into sympathetic illegal aliens just wanting a home but being persecuted by the nasty white male Kree.

“if you want to send a message use western union”

Yep, my friend told me that quote years ago and I just said it back to her yesterday. I call it the sound of a soapbox being dragged into the action.

“A Star is Born”

Well that was the 4th remake of that story, and I really liked it A LOT. I would recommend it highly. It is a sad story but very well done. And respectful of the audience. One full frontal nude shot of Lady Gaga that is NOT sexy, otherwise pretty clean.

PS to my own post to say: the songs are very good. It’s Willie Nelson’s son in the band in the movie and he and Gaga did the songs. It’s really a great Hollywood movie.

“Why do that? Why?”

Because Social Justice Warriors and their virtue signalling collaborators encourage it.

Sequels, prequels.......what you do when you’re out of ideas.

Remakes are even worse. The only decent remake I can think of was Airplane. It was even better than the original Zero Hour.

they make movies directly showing Black people being constantly superior to White people. "Black Panther" was a good example of this.

Why do that? Why?

To please their audience.

Movie audiences today are mostly black.

It can’t just be a black female lead. It has to be a black, transgender, female lead.
