KSA: The Goat Thinks Yer Purdy

So the Saudis blame Iran for a drone attack eh?

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia accused Tehran of being behind a drone strike that shut down a key oil pipeline in the kingdom, and a newspaper close to the palace called for Washington to launch “surgical” strikes on Iran, raising the specter of escalating tensions as the U.S. boosts its military presence in the Persian Gulf.

Washington (that would be the United States) ought to launch strikes on Iran because Saudi Arabia believes Iran bombed KSA?

Well, I have a solution to this problem: The House of Saud can formally deed over KSA to the Untied States.  Then the attack would have been on US territory and what was destroyed would be American property.  We would then be justified in striking back.

Up until then they can go **** goats; if they want to hit Iran they can do it themselves.  They certainly have plenty of both men and material to do it with.  They can take the consequences of doing it too, including potentiating a war, during which we will sit back and watch the fireworks from nicely beyond minimum safe distance.

I personally do not care if the crazies over there all blow each other to Mars.  We have utterly no business shooting anything at anyone until and unless our material, people or territory are attacked.  Now if Iran decides it's going to take a shot at one of our military ships, well, then I say flatten them.  Now.

But if Iran wants to shoot at other people's territory that's on them -- and between them and the other people.  It's not our issue, it's not our property, it's not out money and it's not our people being shot at.

Oh, and KSA is not our friend either.

I agree that KSA is not our friend.

America has kept any large wars small by using diplomacy, economic sanctions and the occasional small hot war. The purpose of these actions was to defeat the Soviet Union without starting a war with the Soviet Union. It worked. It worked so well that the USA no longer needs the alliance network that it used to defeat the Soviets. Very little US exports go to, or oil imports comes from, the Persian Gulf. However, 20% of the world’s oil flows through the straits. Cutting it off, which would at this point cost Iran very little, would cause a major shock to the world’s economy, which indirectly will cause domestic problems in the US; such as increased illegal immigration and rising costs for oil even though we are almost oil independent. This is because the oil market is global. If this oil shock occurs then millions of people in third world countries will starve which will put even more political pressure on the US.

The ideal solution, and one has to grin when thinking about it, is an Israeli lead coalition of Arab states attacking and subduing Iran. This would upend Middle Eastern politics and might lead to a wider ME peace than is possible by any other means. A giant turd floating in the punch bowl is Turkey and Syria. Also, Russia will weigh in on Iran’s behalf unless the US puts pressure on them. The trick will be to make Turkey and Russia see some benefit from either helping Israel or sitting on the sidelines. I am pretty sure the Kurds will fight if they can have a homeland carved out of the Iranian carcass. The politics of this is beyond Byzantine. But if anybody could pull it off it would be Trump.

Incidentally, there have been a lot of complaints that Trump’s style is “abrasive.” I have news. No other style will work. He might need to up his style to about thirty grit to achieve results.

I’m scratching my head here, trying to figure out why it’s in our best interest for ANYONE to “attack and subdue” Iran. Which countries are best suited to attack and subdue the radical Islamic regimes in places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan?

“I’m scratching my head here, trying to figure out why it’s in our best interest for ANYONE to “attack and subdue” Iran. “

Iran is a hostage taking country. They have been since probably before the Persian empire. They will take the world hostage by cutting off 20% of the world’s oil. This will cause a massive financial collapse. Along with that collapse will come millions of people starving to death. When people starve, they immigrate to someplace else. The location of choice will be America. The trick, and it will be a trick, is to prevent that catastrophe without using American blood.

The Iranian government cares nothing about the rest of the world. They are focused on Islam and bringing about the apocalypse which is the ultimate aim of their sect. There is no reasoning with them. Once they feel they have the power to do so, they will end the world in fire. (This is the prophesy they are trying to bring about.) Iran, and their vision of Islam, is a cancer that we can’t live with forever.

You can only live in peace if your neighbors will allow you to. If they want war, and Iran does, then your only choice is to fight it or surrender and accept castration. (The Ottomans* castrated their slaves until the end of the empire in the ‘20’s.)

* Yes, different country, but similar religion and slaves really have no choice in the matter. People don’t seem to realize that Islam will not COEXIST. Every time I see that bumper sticker I know it is on the car owned by an uninformed idiot.

I’m trying to figure out what makes Iran any different than any other Islamic dump over there in that regard.

You wanted to know the difference between Iran and the rest of Islam. Here is the answer. Despite the dissembling at the end, the return of the 12th Imam has always meant the Apocalypse. The 12th Imam is supposed to return from some obscure village. The former president of Iran had a wide highway constructed from this village to the capital for the grand procession. In the legend, he returns when the ME is “on fire.”

“They will take the world hostage by cutting off 20% of the world’s oil.“

Then it sounds to me like SA should form an alliance with all those countries that consume all that oil. We’ve sold or given the Saudis hundred of billions of dollars in US weapons, support, and training. If they want Iran blown up they can do it themselves.

Let them formally ally with Israel, France, GB, and Japan for a start. They can all kill Iranians to their hearts content. But leave us out. The US Navy can guarantee freedom of the seas but nothing else.

Not one single American boot. Not one.

Just some interesting points. As one wag noted, the Saudi military does not function well outside of air conditioning. They have lots of hardware but not the will to fight. They had to bribe pilots to fly bombing missions in Yemen. The Iranians, on the other hand, are experienced combat soldiers infected with a fervant zeal to bring about the apocalypse.

While it doesn’t seem to directly involve the US, a conflict over there will have huge consequences. This is why I am glad it’s Trump making the calls. I feel , unlike Obama, Trump has our best interests at heart.

Not our fricking problem.

“Trump has our best interests at heart.”

He also promised to keep us out of any more ME wars.

While I agree with your sentiments, I suspect the political fallout from this particular war is more than Trump can survive, if he lets millions of people starve. And, that is what will happen*. Along with probably causing a worldwide financial crisis that could collapse the US economy as well. It’s important to see the whole picture. I suspect that he does.

*Probably a third of the world is living hand to mouth. The sudden contraction of oil supplies along with the consequent rise in energy price will put at least that much of the world into starvation. Imagine what the liberals will do with that. Remember the liberals hate America more than Iran does. They will happily take down Trump and throw open our borders to the starving hordes. I read an article, I think in the Economist, that said the Arab Spring was really started by a sudden increase in the price cereal crops which was caused by converting much of the US harvest to produce alcohol for gas. So imagine what the price increase in gas will do to the marginal countries of the world.

I think the reason good presidents appear to age so much in office is because they have to reconcile irreconcilable things. They have to make a decision regardless of who it hurts. You couldn’t give me that job. I can’t see why anyone would take it, but I am glad Trump did.

“if he lets millions of people starve.”

Then commodity prices will rise making American farmers profitable. Hello Iowa and your Electoral votes.

“They will happily take down Trump and throw open our borders to the starving hordes.”

First they have to take down President Trump. Not bloody likely. Especially if the libs try their open borders crap in 2020.

“So imagine what the price increase in gas will do to the marginal countries of the world.”

Don’t care. Not our problem.

No more ME Wars. None.
