Democrats cannot comprehend William Barr being lionized by conservatives. Thats okay, they will never understand why we love Donald Trump either.
But Matthew Continetti, editor of the Washington Beacon, thinks he knows. Its for the same reason we loved Dick Cheney: neither of them will take crap the way everyone else in town does.
Barr is the new Dick Cheney: a stocky, bespectacled, confrontational, blunt, intelligent, unapologetically conservative, experienced, and high-powered official who believes in and fights for the office of the president. Just as Democrats loathed Cheney as a bugaboo manipulating President George W. Bush to further the interests of Halliburton, they attack Barr as a dishonest factotum of President Trump's. The qualities that drove Democrats batty over Cheneyhis inscrutability, his cleverness, his asperity, and above all his successmake them incensed about Barr
Whats behind conservative support for Cheney and Barr is their lack of embarrassment. Most Washingtonians, no matter their party, find it important to be held in esteem by the citys tastemakers, who are overwhelmingly liberal. Not these two. Washington Free Beacon
No indeed, they both speak with a clipped accuracy that surgically addresses the issue regardless of who it may offend. Such as when Mr. Barr described Muellers March 27th letter as a bit snitty and I think it was probably written by one of his staff members. Or when he responded to Senator Blumenthals request for notes Barr had taken of his phone conversation with Mueller with a simple, no, why should you have them?
Its because we can imagine these two, both generally genteel, not hesitating for a minute to tell these clowns to go $#*# themselves when appropriate. In fact, we know for a fact that Dick Cheney would because he did.
And most of us cant wait till the day that AG Barr gets to do the same thing, either literally or figuratively. Welcome to the White Hat Team, Mr. Barr. Youll find your fans to be loyal and true just as long as you are.
Leader of the White Hat Team my kind of white privilege

Heaven help us.

Dick Cheney was a big-government globalist who wasn't very conservative at all. I voted for Donald Trump because I was sick of @ssholes like him polluting my government.
By any objective measure, the guy operated as a Sunni Muslim in his capacity as VP of the United States.
Indeed—as Deep Swampy, neocon war-mongering as it gets.
Yeah, Barr has been another Bush asset, but let’s hope he’s not that bad.
It’s hard for me to imagine anyone using Dick Cheney as a means of winning in 2020.
I think he means Cheney’s intelligent tenaciousness and drive, not his politics...
And also his formidable... What’s the word... Gravitas?
All of which was crystallized by the mess he made in Iraq.
Sure enough.
But the GOP certainly does lack in tenaciousness compared to the democrats.
Trump certainly has this spirit, and Sessions was the opposite. Barr brings it back to the AG role.
Beyond that, I just can’t get too miffed by the author’s comparison to Cheney, as I concluded what he meant didn’t mean all of Cheney’s negatives.
Gotcha Alas, and I apologize for my Cheney flashback. I just didn’t care for him.
And I got you, FRiend!
Nation building as a national policy has been proven a wreck.
Trump himself pointed that out.
Cheney was one of its most vigorous proponents, and has failed in it utterly.
How about his being the new Don Rumsfeld instead of Cheney?
I said I wouldn't vote for him.
Why, they asked.
I won't vote for anyone without a pulse...
Many have no problem ignoring Bill Barr’s actual track record while in Federal employ. I do have that problem.
He advocated for Federal agents to be immune from consequences for killing American citizens. He defended pro bono Lon Horiuchi, who assassinated Vicki Weaver while standing on her porch with her child in her arms. He also supported Second Amendment infringement legislation during his tenure.
I have found no evidence that he has repented of those acts and stands.
I consider him a statist: He believes in Federal power over the electorate, not the other way around.
I consider him an Institionalist, not a Constitutionalist. I expect he will try to clean up the alphabet apparatchik agencies, but will place the public reputations of said bureaucracies far above equal justice before the law.
Don't worry, he's just talking style.
Our politics is in a post-substance era.
Thank god for that because the substance the rat politicians have given us, pre-Trump, has America on it's knees.
