All unions are not equal. Anyone can do the cash register, stock shelves, and bag groceries. Not much training or skill required.
Not saying anything bad about the people who do it, and do it well. It takes a lot longer to get trained up in a technical field, and you make yourselves and your brothers and sisters more valuable by being professional.

Rights have corresponding responsibilities.

Actions have consequences.

“Do these strikers know that by leaving their union, as a recent SCOTUS decision allows, they could not only make back that five bucks but keep even more of their own money? “

Have you ever tried to convince a diehard union member about the real truth about their unions and it’s affect on their livelihood? We were at a graveside service for my wife’s uncle who was a member of the Carpenter’s Union (as Commie a bunch as exists in this country today). As the casket was lowered one of, the union members attending the service said that “the departed sure hated Republicans.”
My wife spoke up and said “well he loved me and I’m a Republican!”

Yep. The majority of supermarket jobs are low-skill jobs that are for someone who wants a little extra income on nights or HS jobs. Unless you attempt to work your way up to, say, butcher or a department manager/supervisor or higher level position, it is not a career job to bag groceries, push carts, etc.

Ask for 2/3 of a pound of cold cuts. See the look on the deli guy’s face.

Salami, salami, baloney.

Union bosses need to ask their members to contribute to a new program, called: strike insurance. That way, union members can strike forever and collect insurance payments while sitting at home on strike.

Like this?

This was found on a local community FB forum. Red is the union guy, blue are random community members. They specifically link to this (https://beta.stopandshop.com/site/27/0/0/25/c848c423-c11f-4338-83d6-83891b7b783a.pdf?_ga=2.156174718.478058012.1555287887-1503263759.1551417967) PDF where S&S details the proposals they have put on the table. They denouce it because it is from the employer, when fro what I have seen the Union has yet to publicly show any of their proposals.

Silly question, but why are the names blocked out?

That is standard practice when posting screenshots from social media.

Whoever did the blocking on this one did not do a good job. They left someone's name in a response, even though the same name was blocked on that person's post.

It’s actually very easy to move into a department manager (~40k/yr) or asst store manager (40-70k) to general manager (60-140k) of a grocery store with hard work. When I started as a cashier at the age of 20, I was promoted 6 times within 3 years. Even those that want to be a career, its not hard to move up. Beyond GM, you have DMs, Regional Directors/VPs and Zone VPs/SVPs. All with just hard work and being good at identifying and developing talent.

I went to a funeral for a relative of a co-worker some time back, and all the union people showed up at the funeral wearing union tee shirts, some very strident ones.

I thought it was disgusting.

They inject politics even into the most solemn of moments. Good for your wife on speaking up!

Both my sons also had supermarket jobs in high school and they are both doing very well today and left the nest in their early 20s.

I actually think supermarkets are a great way to groom our young folks for the real life skills of the working world as it offers them their first customer-facing experience in a high-volume and sometimes hostile environment - such as an authoritarian manager or the "customer from hell." Thus you learn how to handle difficult people and other adversity with a smile on your face.

After my supermarket stint, I went to work in a restaurant - which was the major leagues of "customers from hell'! Also, I'm pretty sure the chef there was a young Gordon Ramsey, or one of his relatives.

I used to try to explain to my students—if you can learn how to do it in a day or so, it isn’t going to pay very well. If something takes years to master, then you’ll likely make some good money. Like the difference between the money a baggage handler makes and what a pilot or airplane mechanic makes.

Unions promise to support members during strikes.

The members of the leadership that is.

There are career shelf stockers at Stop & Shop that make 80grand/yr.
They don’t want to be out looking for new work..
