Trump says he opposes nationalizing U.S. 5G network

President Donald Trump said Friday the United States should not nationalize its 5G network and said private companies should move quickly to deploy the faster next-generation network.

“In the United States our approach is private-sector driven and private-sector led. The government doesn’t have to spend lots of money,” Trump said. “Leading through the government, it won’t be nearly as good, nearly as fast.”

The White House mulled the idea of nationalizing the 5G network for more than a year. In March Politico reported that Trump’s reelection campaign supported a government role in managing the 5G networks even as White House officials including top economic adviser Larry Kudlow have said for months they oppose the idea....

There’s no idea that bureaucrats and lawyers can’t make bad.

What is 5G Networking (low tech definition)? This article is the first I’ve ever heard about it.

You’ll get getting a knock at the door in 5 minutes.

Like when Newman said nobody REALLY needs mail.

Trump is on a ROLL since mueller fizzled and died.

in a nutshell: “When it arrives, 5G technology will utilize a higher-frequency band of the wireless spectrum called millimeter wave that allows data to be transferred much more rapidly than the lower-frequency band dedicated to 4G. The downside is that millimeter wave signals don’t travel as far..”

New cell data technology (LTE, 3G, etc), and it’s damned fast.

That may be best suited for industrial use.
How many private phone users need service that fast?
Certainly not me! Some may just want the bragging rights to say they have such a phone capacity.

Thanks for the info.
Sounds like this would be far more expensive than what is available now.

It’s still bad news that they’re pushing 5G.

5G technology will utilize a higher-frequency band of the wireless spectrum called millimeter wave that allows data to be transferred much more rapidly

other bad news is that it operates in the same wavelength band that is used for microwave crowd control...feels like your skin is on fire.

The ADS works by firing a high-powered beam of 95 GHz waves at a target, which corresponds to a wavelength of 3.2 mm.[13] The ADS millimeter wave energy works on a similar principle as a microwave oven, exciting the water and fat molecules in the skin, and instantly heating them via dielectric heating. One significant difference is that a microwave oven uses the much lower frequency (and longer wavelength) of 2.45 GHz. The short millimeter waves used in ADS only penetrate the top layers of skin, with most of the energy being absorbed within 0.4 mm (1⁄64 inch),[14] whereas microwaves will penetrate into human tissue about 17 mm (0.67 inch)

5G will provide data speeds as fast as broadband over the air.

5G will allow devices to talk to each other in ways not possible today.

It will provide high-speed internet to rural areas, connect machines to each other and allow cars to talk with each other and with traffic signals....which will improve safety.

Yes, it can be used for many negative things as well....but 5G is a tool, just like a firearm.....it is all about how it is used that matters.

We’re fine until we develop a “next generation” that is less dangerous.

No, 5G is much more dangerous than that. Are you really that ignorant—or just an industry shill?

Fast if you can get the required service - lots of 4G service isn’t really 4G except when one is in the perfect spot...even though they are paying for it....expect a lot of folks to be paying high prices for the “blazing speed” of 5G and then having to drive 3 miles to the perfect spot to show it off to their less technical cutting edge friends....
