Dealing with Facebook's censoring is frustrating to the point of withdrawing

I feel like I am beating a dead horse because I am. Facebook is in one hell of a mess. It never was a good platform for me and many others that I know.

That's because it is always censoring those who are of a conservative bent and is constantly changing its algorithms on what it will or will not publish. Add to this the fact that Facebook is spying on you through some major loophole in the privacy law to the point of following you around the Internet and dishing up ads based on what it sees you searching for. It is a really a creepy, unpredictable service.

Also, its CEO seems to be oblivious to everything in the real world and never really answers a question without raising a hundred more. If I had to use one word to explain him and his company it would be: unresolved. If I have to use one phase: up in the air.

Run by non-human AI bots

Over the years, I have created various small design and publishing companies that sell such items as original posters and t-shirts online.

Recently, I tried to advertise an original "Donald Trump" t-shirt through a boosted post only to have the ad turned down by a Facebook bot. It said that I would have to register as a political organization and in order to do so I would have to email a copy of my driver's license and other proof of who I am.

I did this several months ago when Facebook refused to boost a blog post I had that was political, making the same demand. I foolishly emailed them a copy of all of requested documents, which took me some time to scan.

I then waited for a week for Facebook to send me a code in the mail, which I plugged into my account when I received it. Guess what? It then showed I was eligible to boost a political themed post from my blog, or sell a coffee mug or t-shirt with a politician's face on it.

However, every time I try to do so, the Facebook bot tells me I am not approved -- even though on my page it says I am. I have appealed, written to customer service, only to get a bot reply, which simply says I am not approved.

If I didn't know better, which I don't, I would think that this is Facebook's, clever and sneaky way to make me go away and later deny it censored me or unfairly discriminated against me, if by chance I want to spend thousands and sue the social network giant. Their battery of lawyers on retainer will simply say it was a glitch in the system. No harm done.  No malicious intent.

Yet, in reality, I, and who knows how many others, have been censored and denied the right to advertise, while those on the left, appear to have free rein of the network.

No recourse

In my case, I simply stopped trying. I withdrew my ad request and stopped posting on my Facebook page altogether.  There really is no recourse; however, I can't believe such policies won't seriously hurt the business viability of a company run so poorly and one chalking up so many sour customers and alarming so privacy advocates.

What did these cry baby snowflakes do before Facebook came along?

Gee whiz...go to the Dollar Store and purchase a notebook.
Write down your thoughts.
Wait 48-72 or maybe 96 hours, then re-write your thoughts based on the updated information.

Forget Fakebook...the Zuck is selling your history.

The problem is that anyone thinks they “need” a Facebook in the first place.

I don’t see the problem, as we in our household have never hand an issue with Facebook.

But then again we are smart enough never to have joined.

do you ever go to an event?

Where do you find a schedule of events?

If you perform in a band, where do you promote your events?

Do you write down all of your options in an appointment calendar or just the family related ones?

Zuck is building a photo IDed profile on you even if you never join.

Same thing with Twitter. They make their money on selling the connections within social networks, affinities, and interests. If the data is corrupted from true actions (base truth in the ai training lingo) then it’s not a good data source - you’d have to normalize everything rightward to account for the leftist tilt of the data. You’re never going to be able to accurately model (and surf the wave of) any meme that is outside of the leftist orthodoxy. That’s lots of market left on the table.

And data sources are getting to be the real secret sauce for training ai’s.

I used to like Xanga. It was a social site that was suitable to the sort of things I prefer to do on line, that is, to write essays and travelogues that get commented on and critiqued by other users. I made real friends on Xanga in Việt Nam and Thailand and Burma and have met them in person since. Most of the users, though- ones I never interacted with- were the lollipoppers who put up what they had for breakfast and what clothes they were wearing. When Facebook took off they all "migrated" over to FB and Xanga became unviable and raised its fees to astronomical levels for an internet social site. It shut down shortly after. I have a FB page because my daughter set one up for me and my Vietnamese friends all discovered it. I am not comfortable on FB at all but I do keep in touch a bit with my VN friends when I am in the US with it.
