Where did it all begin?

What is the primary cause for what we are seeing in the past 35 years with school shootings?

A) Prior to 1947, child raising was by role modeling parent’s strict upbringing, high expectations, moralist traditions, religious guidance, patterned family’s generations. The belt, wooden spoon, often the hand was commonly used in daily spankings.

B) 1947 Dr. Spock published his book on Child rearing, within a decade a perceptible change began to develop in American families. Under Spock’s influence, parents watched their children become sassy, contentious; increasing numbers became juvenile delinquents and criminals. Over the last 50 years this out-of-control behavior has led to a 300 percent increase in rate of violent crime, school shootings included.

I remember my parents going to some meeting and receiving a copy of his book (probably 1955).

I remember my dad sitting on the living room couch reading it a few days later.

I remember taking the trash out for my Mom a couple of days later and the book was on top of it.

I remember my wife leaning at the backyard fence talking to my neighbor’s wife (approx 1983).

I remember her kid kept wanting her to play catch so he threw the ball at her until she picked it up and kept it.

I remember her kid getting mad and throwing a large clod of dirt at his mother, which hit her right on the elbow.

I remember her screaming then starting to cry.

I remember the husband coming over with with some horse shite about,”look, you made Mommy cry, don’t you feel bad about making Mommy cry?” But he didn’t touch the kid.

I remember my Dad throwing that stupid book away - which apparently did not happen often enough.

Legalized medicating of teenagers, enhanced bully games, lack of leadership from teachers, poor parenting skills, and inability of authorities to remove problem-kids from the school system (putting them into hold-down facilities)....all add up to the ‘square-root’ formula to create this trend.

The kid in Florida? There’s over twenty occasions where the cops should have stepped in and detained the kid, removed it from the school/home, and let him understand what zero-tolerance means. Go check his medications (same story with the Vegas shooter).

There is no primary cause. There is no magic bullet to fix it.

It is several things coming together at the right time. A perfect storm if you will.

But if you remove one or two of the things coming together, you can reduce the incident. But you will not eliminate the problem.

My parents took an active interest in every aspect of my life as a child. Who were my friends? What was I learning in school? Helping me develop interests in sports, music, and teaching me important events in our Country’s history: especially those where people sacrificed to insure our freedom. And, oh yes, manners. My parents would absolutely not tolerate bad manners towards them or visitors in our house or at school.

The "causes" you listed are trivial and not major contributors. Here are some of the underlying causes (not an exhaustive list):

1. WW I & WW II --> "Lost generations" especially in Europe. Led to nihilism, "if it feels good, do it" and "live for the moment" mentality. People stopped living as if their immortal souls depended on living a good life.
2. Wars caused Moms to enter the workforce. They found fulfillment outside the home. Militant feminism arose.
3. Legalized abortion desensitized people to wanton murder of innocents.
4. Discovery of psychotropic drugs and mass production opioids.
5. Rampant welfare --> high taxes --> required two working parent to make ends meet. Moms now out of the home and kids in daycare.
6. Invention of the integrated circuit and IP communications --> ubiquitous "social media" and the rise of "first person shooter" games.
7. Liberals removing religion from the public square and schools.
8. Breakdown of nuclear traditional families forced by LGBQT activists.
9. Rise of single mother "family" units (see "Welfare").
10. Complete breakdown of discipline in schools.
11. Society became too successful materially, too wealthy. Too much spare time and not enough hardship. People no longer focuses on survival.
