I rarely listen to radio. It is full time commercials with an occasional song or commentator.
Exactly right. I quit listening to it decades ago for that reason. When I was a teen in St. Louis in the late 60s, we had this new thing called “underground radio” on FM. Before that, there were almost no FM radio stations. A station named KSHE played nonstop music with hardly any interruptions.
When FM became commercialized and the pirate radio stations disappeared, radio became insufferable with the constant ads. Then Internet radio appeared and all was good again (even if you had to pay). You now have access to all the music mankind has ever made without interruption.
I’ve noticed that terrestrial radio has about 20 minutes of commercials per hour. It’s hard to listen to because of so many interruptions.
I realize that the income or revenue from radio comes from selling commercial time, but, by increasing the amount of commercials, are they driving away some of their audience?
