The cops were tired of handing out tickets for bad driving. Decided to reward a good driving.
They saw one fellow signal, full stop, and turn into the proper lane. Followed him some more and he followed all of the rules. They pulled him over to thank him for being such a careful driver.
“Welllll - that’s sure nice occciffers! When youse as drunk as I are youse GOT to beese careful!”
I wonder if it actually would work? No. Even back in the ‘70’s we could determine if someone tried the chugalug myth or when the person started. It takes time to hit a.08 or better.
The roadblocks in Ontario to check randomly check for impaired drivers were annoying as hell.
The only enjoyment I got when asked if I had been drinking was the opportunity to reply,
‘I had had a drink 20 years ago but I think it is out of my system by now’.
Invariably got waved on.
Canada is far more advanced on the road to fascism than the USA. The people are far more dependent on government than here. That brings a corresponding loss of freedom.
Give them benefits and they’ll gladly accept the repression.
Totalitarianism is the natural result of the legislative process.
Legislators must prove their worth by passing new laws or be replaced by those who will. There will always be those that want more & more laws, to protect themselves from their own perceived harm, at the expense of others. Yet every law that passes takes away the freedom of some people. Very few new laws actually grant new rights to ALL citizens.
Examples abound: Laws forcing Catholic nuns to provide birth control & abortion insurance; laws forcing a baker to violate his religion to accommodate a gay wedding, transgender (mentally ill) rights to use whatever bathroom they choose, despite the legitimate dismay of others using the restroom.
This is why Federal & state laws fill whole bookshelves & will fill countless others in the future. OBTW, as a citizen YOU are required to obey these laws despite not being aware of them - ignorance is no defense.
Without restriction, in not too many years, no human activity will be free from criminal review. Our present legislative system will guarantee it.
A lawyer told me to carry a bottle of alcohol based mouth wash in your car. When you get pulled over, make sure the officer sees you take a swig, rinse, & spit it out - not on him, of course. Tell him you are prepping for a date, meeting, or you simply have bad breath & didn’t want to gross out the policeman.
In some states, consumption of any food or non-alcoholic drink during or after the stop invalidates a breath test, even gum.
To the oppressed Canadians: When you perceive the cops are looking, buy a candy bar or snack along with the bottle, & start eating it before leaving the store.
>>As long as my firearms arent welcome in Canukistan, neither am I.<<
Get this: Several years ago I was at a border crossing to the People’s Republic of Canada. Border patrol dude asked me several questions about reason for visit, contents of my vehicle, whether I had a firearm in the car. Then he asked a question that almost caused me to do something stupid: He asked me if I OWNED any firearms. I gave him a look like, if I could get away with it I’d get out of this car and beat the shit out of you. Fortunately I kept my cool, answered no, and was waived through.
when I first came to America, I almost cried when I saw you can buy a 6-pack of beer for $3 at the dollar store. God bless this country!
I went back at Christmas. Dont use your US dollars to pay at local stores. The exchange rate is atrocious.
#13 A Kennedy could never drive in Canada.
If you have a pot conviction (even a simple “possession” because your friend had some in the car 30 years ago) you are considered “inadmissable” to the USA unless you buy a $1000 waiver that may or might not be issued after up to one year after applying for same. Oh, and that waiver is valid only for 1 to 5 years from the day of issue!
You were saying something about begging permission? How about purchasing an indulgence? < BG >
The other day in the ABC Store and some woman says out loud (with 5 other people standing there) “I’m going to go out to my car, open this bottle and mix me a drink !”
She was told not a good idea as NC has Open Container Laws.
She says “well Millwalkee it’s ok”
Side note: This ABC Store is right next to the Mooresville Police Station and Jail. The other 2 ABC Stores in Town have Police Substations IN THE SAME BUILDING.
I don’t know why any of those laws would bother you as a visitor, unless you regularly drink and drive.
While I agree the penalties (including administrative suspension of driving privileges) for first time offenses slightly over the limit are a bit stiff, I don’t see a problem with the rest.
What is up with Canadians? You’d thing there are enough Chinese people up there to tell you a police state isn’t a good idea.
entrapment?
Don’t know.
