I agree with you on the beat-up. This is the kind of mistake people make who don’t have a lawyer on staff. Anyone could make this mistake. There are so many laws a wag once said, “We are all doing something against the law at least 15 minutes a day. We don’t even know it.” It is, for example, against the law in Florida to burn anything that is not a “natural” material. They have EPA police with real guns who will come out and sift through your burn pile and criminally charge you for anything not “natural.” This includes cardboard and paper. It includes any treated wood or any normal wood “drop.” (Pine two x fours are forbidden, for example.)
I see builders violating this all the time. I had a friend criminally charged. But if he agreed to pay $1500 and take the early offender intervention course, the criminal arrest would be expunged. He didn’t have the money for the fine or the get-out-of-arrest course. He lost his driver’s license, which is how they collect, then his job, then his wife and he would now be homeless if not for a local church.
Much as I don’t like what AOC is trying to do, I’d give her a pass on this one.
