Well kids, youre on your own today. Were heading out into the mountains. Weve got clear forecasts for the 3 day trip but things can change on a dime and traveling across the Continental Divide through Wyoming is always iffy this time of year. Even if it isnt snowing the wind can whip the fallen snow into whiteout conditions. Mountain passes in the winter arent for wimps.
Interesting side note: See those structures on the left? Theyre snow fences, somewhat ubiquitous on highways in the northern climes now days but apparently they were originally researched, designed and tested in Wyoming. Their purpose is to stop the migrating snow from simply charging forward and dumping on the highway, making its removal very difficult and expensive. Apparently they work quite effectively. And even though they are clearly designed to keep the white stuff out nobody ever accuses them of being racist. Of course there has been some grousing about the impact they have on the migrating Pronghorn Antelope population. As if their lives arent tough enough as it is.
Did I mention the fences were 15 feet tall?
And they work? Go figure.
Hope you all have a good day, with no snow and no earthquakes.
Ill see you from somewhere along the road.

Great pics!
And, as we all know, fences never work. /s
Have a good trip.
How about we just eat the antelope? Doesn’t take like chicken, not as good as bacon, but, just the same, happy to help.
Nice pictures...
I-80 going west on a good day. It ain’t fun on a bad day. As to the snow fences, new ones have animal and maintenance breaks in them, which are not advisable for the border fence/wall.
I-80 going east looks about the same. Snow fences are on both sides of the highway, with maybe a few more on the North side for that prevailing wind that never stops.
...Where the deer and the antelope fillet...
According the left, the antelope and the snow will either:
1) Climb over it
2) Tunnel under it
3) Cut through it
4) Claim Asylum
5) Overstay their grazing
So why even bother having it?
Antelope season is just to make sure your rifle is sighted in good.
Animal and maintenance breaks (far from population centers) would still provide for a more secure border
I beg to differ. Antelope meat stinks like smelly goat. We have several on our ranch and look at them with distain similar to prairie dogs.
Amen.
