Johnson & Johnson Hid For Decades That There Was Asbestos Was In Their Baby Powder

There Was Asbestos Was In Johnson & Johnson Baby Powder

Johnson & Johnson reportedly has known about asbestos in Baby Powder since the early 1970s.

From Reuters: Johnson & Johnson knew for decades that asbestos lurked in its Baby Powder

Facing thousands of lawsuits alleging that its talc caused cancer, J&J insists on the safety and purity of its iconic product. But internal documents examined by Reuters show that the company's powder was sometimes tainted with carcinogenic asbestos and that J&J kept that information from regulators and the public.

Darlene Coker knew she was dying. She just wanted to know why.

She knew that her cancer, mesothelioma, arose in the delicate membrane surrounding her lungs and other organs. She knew it was as rare as it was deadly, a signature of exposure to asbestos. And she knew it afflicted mostly men who inhaled asbestos dust in mines and industries such as shipbuilding that used the carcinogen before its risks were understood.

Coker, 52 years old, had raised two daughters and was running a massage school in Lumberton, a small town in eastern Texas. How had she been exposed to asbestos? “She wanted answers,” her daughter Cady Evans said.

Fighting for every breath and in crippling pain, Coker hired Herschel Hobson, a personal-injury lawyer. He homed in on a suspect: the Johnson’s Baby Powder that Coker had used on her infant children and sprinkled on herself all her life. Hobson knew that talc and asbestos often occurred together in the earth, and that mined talc could be contaminated with the carcinogen. Coker sued Johnson & Johnson, alleging that “poisonous talc” in the company’s beloved product was her killer.

J&J didn’t tell the FDA that at least three tests by three different labs from 1972 to 1975 had found asbestos in its talc – in one case at levels reported as “rather high.”

They KNEW about the hepatotoxicity of Tylenol and
did nothing.

They KNEW about this too, but made $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ galore,
and the deaths take a decade or more to induce,
so marketing was livid with greed, and did nothing.

"Johnson & Johnson Hid For Decades That There Was Asbestos Was In Their Baby Powder"

If provable, that is, at least morally, murder.

Looks like it might be time to short JNJ or sell some put spreads.

J&J sent a note to all employees stating that Reuters is wrong in their reporting.

That J&J tried to show Reuters that the documents they were reporting were faked or were incorrectly identifying quotes to suggest something different than intended.

Reuters would not include their rebuttal in the original story or afterword.

J&J again says there is no asbestos in baby powder and there never was asbestos in the baby powder.

And that Reuters may be falsely continuing this storyline on purpose for improper reasons.

FAKE NEWS

I was told that there was not an instance of asbestosis or asbestos related cancer that did not also include smoking. The asbestos fibers need to get stuck in your lungs to cause the irritation and the tar from the tobacco provides that.

Contradiction and correction will be appreciated.

Here’s some of what the American Cancer Society says about talcum powder after acknowledging talc can be contaminated by asbestos during mining

“It is not clear if consumer products containing talcum powder increase cancer risk. Studies of personal use of talcum powder have had mixed results, although there is some suggestion of a possible increase in ovarian cancer risk. There is very little evidence at this time that any other forms of cancer are linked with consumer use of talcum powder.

Until more information is available, people concerned about using talcum powder may want to avoid or limit their use of consumer products that contain it.”

I have also heard that the risk of asbestos either exclusively or overwhelmingly presented to smokers. The article fails to mention whether she smoked or not. (At any time she was exposed to the tainted talc.)

Hypothetically, if out of the tens of thousands of cancer cases, 99.9% of them smoked, then there would really be only tens, instead of tens of thousands, of purely JNJ-caused cases, which would have a different liability profile.

Although knowingly concealing the contamination from the general public should be prosecutable as intentional misrepresentation.

This is the same stupid formula the greedy tort lawyers use all the time.

Find someone dying of a nasty disease.

Look very hard to find some possible, potential connection to someone with big, deep pockets.

Claim, without any proof, that the Deep Pockets are responsible.

Rely on a sympathetic jury to award big bucks, because "someone has to pay".

Pure evil.

"I have also heard that the risk of asbestos either exclusively or overwhelmingly presented to smokers."

The dangers of asbestos became apparent after many employees who built Liberty Ships for WWII developed lung cancer and Mesothelioma. Asbestos was used for insulation in the ships, and many workers were exposed clouds of asbestos particles daily. Smoking could increase their chance of these diseases by a factor of 10.

Asbestos comes in several different varieties, and only the small particles with a sharp needle like structure were linked to the diseases. In the lungs, they could directly cause cancer. They could also migrate through the lungs to the outer lung lining, causing Mesothelioma. Larger particles could be stopped from even getting to the lung, and smaller, rounded particles could be intercepted by normal body defenses. Much of this information is ignored by the press and the plaintiff attorneys.

How often did coke get cut w/baby powder?

Wiping baby powder on butt is not going to get you mesothelioma, you’d have to inhale it. Any silicate you inhale would be a contributor to that and similar pulmonary problems. That’s why 9-11 responders who had to remove masks are dead men walking.
