No. The EC was a genius idea. If anything, we should go in the other direction. Art.IV, Sec. 4 “guarantee a republican form of government” should be understoof to mean state legislatures must be bicameral with one house being aportioned by equal population and the other by equal land area. This would break the stranglehold that big cities enjoy over their respective states.
Destruction of our Constitutional Republic is the First step to Civil War.
If the founding fathers thought the Electoral College was a good idea, that’s good enough for me.
Without it there’s too much wiggle room and that allows election meddling.

Very true. I’ve heard many cite the 1960 World Series, in which the Yankees outscored the Pirates by a big margin . They won a few games by big margins. But the Pirates won the series four games to three.
