Occupations and Their Ideologies
Other Life ^

Occupations are strongly sorted by ideology. Political scientist Adam Bonica has produced reliable and consistent estimates of ideological placement for a huge number of individuals, politicians, and organizations. As he writes here, he was especially struck by how extreme are the mean ideology scores for various occupations:

Although the ideological orientation of these industries is not much of a surprise, the extent to which these industries favor the extreme, rather than moderate, wings of each party far surpassed my expectations.

Wow. Solidly in the blue range:

Trial lawyers and corporate attorneys
Professors
Teachers and school administrators
Arts and entertainment professionals
Psychiatrists and psychologists
Civil servants and public employees

When I was building fuel systems (industrial type construction), most of the pipe fitter types were red while the sprinkler guys (non-welded fittings) leaned blue/liberal. Serious.

Asian, black and Hispanic voters are overwhelmingly democrat... yet the graphic gives the impression only ‘elite’ democrats were included...

Well, strictly speaking, the poll didn't measure ideological preference by race, but I take your point.

For what it's worth, minorities work in every occupation listed on the chart.

We’re talking percentages here...

Welfare and prison inmates would have been in the high 90% range for Democrats. The graphic is a lie - pushing the notion that democrats are ‘elites’... it’s BS.

The more the job depends on government handouts, the more blue the employees.

Amazing. As a retired art teacher, I check TWO boxes in the solidly blue category. Yet I would rank 100% conservative in any political survey out there. I have never voted for a democrat in my life and never will. I guess I’m what they call an outlier or an anomaly.

Yeah, but since their mostly democrats their professions should have been listed. The graphic is an ad for liberal elites who think they're so superior to the rest of us ... it's BS and you know it.

"minorities work in every occupation listed on the chart."

Yeah, but since their mostly democrats their professions should have been listed.

You're not making a whole lot of sense. What professions? Minority professions? What the hell is that?

A wide range of professions are listed, and minorities work in ALL of them - on both sides of the chart.

I have no idea why you're making this about race anyway. The study didn't address that at all.

Yep. I'm sure there are plenty of libs who work in professions on the right side of the chart, as well, but the study is nonetheless illuminating.

My point is the study left off lower class democrats...

There’s a lot more garbage truck drives in the United States who are democrats than there are democrat professors.

Yet one group was high lighted and the other ignored. Why? Because the purpose of the ‘study’ was to give the impression that democrats are uppers class for the most part - they ARE NOT...
