Prepare to Celebrate

This is a dilemma: the 4th of July, is on Wednesday, so which weekend is technically “4th of July weekend” this year?  I checked my State’s fireworks schedule to see if that would give me a clue but it looks like those communities that don’t actually shoot them off on the 4th are split between the weekend before and after.

This leads me to conclude that Wednesday is the perfect day for the 4th as you can log a 9 day, two weekend holiday by spending only 4 days from your vacation bank. I haven’t worked (for compensation) for a long time now, but I do remember when that seemed exceptionally good value.

So if you’re combining America’s birthday with an early summer vacation, I wish you a very long, golden week of fireworks and patriotic treats – like these 4th of July brownies.

And if you’re the betting sort, do you want to bet that Google, who today celebrates Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz’s 372nd birthday,

will not bother to take note of America’s 242nd next Wednesday?

Actually expect to get back from a 3 week vacation on 3 July...being retired means the only planning needed is how to ensure bills aren’t late if you’re gone at the wrong time....

“...as you can log a 9 day, two weekend holiday by spending only 4 days from your vacation bank.”

Smarter than the average bear, you are...and me, too!! Back when I worked at a place where I had way less vacation time, mid-week holidays just pissed me off. Now??? Par-tay!! It also doesn’t hurt that I’m in my pre-retirement rehearsal mode with a new RV trailer to use often.

Best of the 4th of July/Independence Day to all!!

A few were setting off fireworks last night (Saturday, June 31, 2018) in my neighborhood, so, I guess will be having them THIS weekend, again on Wednesday, and all NEXT weekend, as well.

They were fun when I was a kid, but now (age 72), they’re just annoying.

When I was around 11 or 12 I found a firecracker which hadn't gone off. So I lit it and thoughtlessly flung it into the street. My unfortunate luck it landed on the hood of a passing car. And not just any car, a police car! I don't completely recall their reaction, but they basically let me off with a stern warning.

Today is July 1st. That weird country somewhat north of America is celebrating its birthday today.

The overzealous ones started shooting fireworks here last night. Our Chesapeake Bay Retriever is afraid of the noise and disappeared all night. I guess we have about eight more days of this.

Obviously, it’s the first weekend as it is closer to July 2 when the Continental Congress declared independence.

To be honest, I hate all the fireworks and drunk partiers. We’ll have the racket going on 24/7 all week. It started last Thursday for those getting a head start on this weekend. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM all day and all night for a week and a half. Continuous loud music rattling the windows so no sleep. All the drunks hooping and hollering with no consideration for anyone but themselves.

We live in the boondocks. Last night, I had dueling amphibians that were perfectly synchronized. Can you relocate?

Thank you for the lovely fireworks—my favorite kind—not dangerous!

Doesn’t a weekday holiday allow a person to only take four days vacation for a nine day stretch, or are there rules regarding taking longer than two days without having to burn vacation days for a weekend?

Being in the military for over 20 years we had to count weekends so a 15 day leave was truly 15 days. Had my own business after that so taking vacations was doable but problematic at times.

Here in the Commonwealth of PA, state residents (as opposed to travelers from another state) will be able to use, for the first time in decades, wait for it... Firecrackers!

One of the few steps toward more freedom our republican legislature has actually taken. On the other hand, they also burdened us with state-wide building codes and state registration for handymans...
