ROSEANNE BARR

Comedienne and actress
Self-identified socialist
Former member of the now-defunct radical group ACORN
Ran for U.S. President on the Green Party ticket in 2012

Roseanne Cherrie Barr was born on November 3, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1974 she married the first of her three husbands, Bill Pentland, and bore three children with him. Parlaying her experiences as a wife and mother into a stand-up comedy act, Barr began performing at local clubs in the early 1980s. By 1985 she was making guest appearances on The Tonight Show, and in 1988 she became the star of her own ABC sitcom, Roseanne, which aired until 1997. For additional details about Barr’s career in the entertainment industry, click here and here.

Apart from her work as an actress and comedienne, Barr has earned a reputation as a politically outspoken, self-described socialist who holds Republicans in contempt. When the Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney underwent heart-transplant surgery in March 2012, for instance, Barr tweeted: “I agree that we have the right to die as we choose-iwish cheney would exercise that right.” (Capitalization and spacing errors are as they appeared in the original.) In addition, Barr was once a proud member of the now-defunct radical group ACORN, which she characterized as “a great organization” in 2009, even as it was engulfed in massive scandal and corruption.

In early 2008, Barr praised Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton as a “seasoned woman politician with 35 years of experience,” and similarly lauded one of Clinton’s leading Democratic rivals, John Edwards, for being “pro-union.” By contrast, Barr disliked then-U.S. Senator Barack Obama and wrote: “I have decided that having a woman president before any man of any color is what these times call for.” By 2009, however, Barr was convinced that “anything that [President] Obama does is just fantastic.” Conversely, by 2015 her former affinity for Mrs. Clinton had eroded dramatically: “She [Clinton] seems like every other Democrat. I would not like to see her win [the presidency]. She’s the same old shit.”

In March 2009, not long after the Israeli-Hamas war known as Operation Cast Lead had come to an end, Barr used her website, Roseanne World, as a forum from which to denounce then-Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. She posted the following—with all spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors appearing as she wrote them:

ohlmert you lie: you say that twelve rockets were fired into israel since the end of the “war” (ethnic cleansing). Not one Israeli was hurt or killed by these rockets, and now you say you are going to go back and kill more palestinians to teach them a lesson!!! “I think rockets are being fired by your own sources, since less than ten israelis have been killed by them. You are bullshitting the world as you pocket money made from arms sales, along with bibi and your agents in Hamas. step down all men in power!”

Barr was deeply angered by the highly publicized March 26, 2012 altercation in which a black Florida teenager named Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by a “white Hispanic” neighborhood-watch captain named George Zimmerman. Three days after the incident, Barr—suspecting that Zimmerman, who had not yet been arrested in connection with the killing, may have been staying at his parents’ Florida home in order to avoid media scrutiny—publicly posted the parents’ home address on Twiiter. She then followed up with several additional messages, including: “If Zimmerman isn’t arrested I’ll rt [re-tweet] his address again — maybe go 2 his house myself.”[1]

In March 2014, Zimmerman’s parents sued Barr for the emotional distress that the comedienne’s invasion of their privacy had caused them. Specifically, the plaintiffs alleged that Barr had tried to “incite a lynch mob to descend” upon them, and that they had been forced to flee their home in the middle of the night as a result. As of June 2015, the case had not yet been adjudicated.

In 2012, Barr took exception to Chick-fil-A Restaurant president Dan Cathy’s assertion—in an interview he did with the religious publication Biblical Recorder—that while he and his company were “very much supportive of the ... biblical definition of the family unit,” they did “not feel called to weigh in on a lot of social activism that’s taking place as it relates to the definition of the family.” In response to Mr. Cathy’s failure to affirmatively endorse gay marriage, Barr tweeted: “anyone who eats Shit Fil-A deserves to get cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ.”

And even if they had wanted to keep it, Disney/ABC had to cancel the show because the show was already getting out of the Roseanne business. Consulting producer Wanda Sykes announced she wouldn't do another episode. Executive producer (and co-star) Sara Gilbert ran away from Roseanne, saying "Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent ..."

This entire paragraph makes no sense - in view of the fact that the circumstances described resulted from the lamentable Twitter outburst, rather than arising subsequently. (The paragraph makes it sound like the show was already suffering before the outburst.)

Regards,

To treat the whole Roseanne affair as even worth discussing is indicative of the intellectual bankruptcy of the WS.

It is their embarrasingly weak "me too" version of painting an imagined group of people with an imagined categorization precisely on the level of the left characterizing the Confederate statue protestors in Charlottesville as "right wing bigots". It is the same type of intellectual vapidity as the left engages in every day. It is banal because it professes to be able to cubbyhole an entire class of people based upon nothing. But it's justified to them because the stupidity matches their never Trumpist stance. What this indicates is not their insight nor intelligence; What it shows instead is What They Can't See or Get Past. It is the 3rd grade level name calling that characterizes this piece of crap pretending to be a magazine.

Roseanne is an idiot who tweeted an idiotic tweet in a moment of idiocy. Period, end of subject.

Roseanne not joking: More socialism

By PATRICK GAVIN

09/25/2012 08:52 AM EDT

As Roseanne Barr continues her presidential campaign as the Peace and Freedom Party candidate, she has a attention-grabbing message: We need more socialism.

“I do think that we need a little bit more socialism in this country at this time,” Barr told Sean Hannity Monday night. “We need to move stuff from the top to the middle and the bottom, because it keeps on staying at the top.”

Barr says her campaign is “very, very serious” and invited President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney to debate her because “the American people are being given a false choice because the choice between the lesser of two evils is a false choice.”

That very campaign, however, seems to be in trouble. Politicker reports that a former press secretary, Anita Stewart, for Barr’s failed Green Party bid claims Barr owes her $4,300 for her campaign work.

“Ms. Stewart claimed she has spent nearly the past three months fighting to get the money Ms. Barr agreed to pay her and said the delay in payment has caused her immense hardships. She said the situation is especially egregious given the fact Ms. Barr has made millions through her comedy and TV career and ranked as the second-highest-paid woman in showbiz (behind only Oprah Winfrey) during the final two years of her eponymous sitcom in the late nineties.”

Stewart says she is “living below poverty level wages.”

“I think Roseanne has forgotten where she comes from and I think we need to look at what this woman is worth and how she’s playing the system,” said Stewart. “She’s taking campaign funds and contributions, but is she really running a real campaign, or is her bottom line and her agenda really all about this movie she’s making? If that’s the case, then she’s really duped the people that are standing up for her, and voting for her and supporting her.”

Roseanne Barr Responds to Critics After Controversial Chick-fil-A Tweet

6:04 PM PDT 7/26/2012 by Paul Bond

The comedienne tweeted that anyone who eats at the fast food chain, which does not support gay marriage, “deserves to get cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ.”

Roseanne Barr was busy Thursday re-tweeting a hailstorm of criticism heaped her way since she angered Christians on Wednesday for tweeting that people who eat at Chick fil-A deserve to get cancer.

Her attack on the chicken restaurant stems from the company’s president and COO Dan Cathy recently proclaiming that the company is run on Biblical principles, including opposition to gay marriage.

Barr, though, supports same-sex marriage and apparently did not take kindly to Cathy’s statement.

“Anyone who eats Shit Fil-A deserves to get the cancer that is sure to come from eating antibiotic filled tortured chickens 4Christ,” the comedienne tweeted Wednesday.

After a Twitter-storm erupted, in which people accused her of wishing cancer on Christians and supporters of Chick-fil-A, Barr tweeted: “Christian liars: I never wished cancer on you at all – jesus will punish u 4 ur deceit – I said processed foods cause cancer — #chickfilA.”

But Twitter users responded by throwing her original tweet back at her and accusing her of being the liar, until Barr apologized and clarified her position over a series of subsequent tweets.

“Prime example of why you should never have celebrities as role models or admire them. Rule #1 of being a celebrity is ‘push the barriers’ that means be controversial, get face time, and stay famous because controversy $ell$. That’s all she ever was and still is. Celebrities are trash.”

Thank you.

However there are thousands, even some Freepers that drank the Kool-Aid spouted by Ms. Barr selling her snake-oil line of propaganda that she is a ‘Conservative’.

I never could stand her, never wasted any time watching her show, then or now. Did not applaud this new show and thought it was disgusting they’d have some kind of queer kid on it to exploit. She’s stupid and we’re better off without stupid people.

She instantly stumbled all over herself to apologize and quit Twitter, so that’s how much she believes in her own First Amendment rights.

Blame Ambien? Sounds like Hillary. How about blaming your own stupid self, Rosie?

I think Roseanne is what she is -- someone that sympathizes with the working class, has populist views and has ended up a Trump supporter because of how extreme the Democratic party and liberal movement has become.

This article is amazing. Normally, one finds non sequiturs in the middle of an argument. The very premise of this article is a non sequitur.

And I’m not sure I like what this never-Trumper is implying about me as a Trump supporter. My wife and kids know me pretty well, and they don’t see me as corrupt.

But then again maybe it was just the GOPe sheeple that watched her circus act on ABC.

The Weekly Standard is a mouthpiece for the GOPe. It's Bill Kristol's publication and loaded up with Never Trumpers.

The weakly standard is just as biased and fake issues as the NY Times. We all know Roseanne is, has been, will continue to be a creep. The show was getting attention because it was so unusual for abccbsnbc to allow a positive message about President Trump on the air. No one believed she had changed.
Not too dissimilar from the weakly standard. Spouting conservative principles while plotting with the fascist left to block and/or remove President Trump from office. He/we won the election. How Fing dare you try and undo this.
Every election that the fascist left wins there are serious flaws in the election. Every election they lose the scream fraud primarily because their fraud didn’t work. So join forces with this slimy group and crow about how noble you are.

Why am I not surprised.

Maybe it was the Ambien.

Had she typed “DT” she’d be a hero to the left without regard for a nonsensical tweet...
