Wait a minute. A company is hiring people who do know their ass from a whole in the ground? Call me shocked. This is genius. Thanks to their reputation, no snowflakes will go near them. Should save them tons of money in the interview process.

The thing I hate most about job fairs...

They often refuse to tell you how much the job pays until they decide to hire you.

If you ask up front, they act like you are insulting them.

They are going to have a hell of time meeting that “reading and speaking English fluently” bullet point in El Paso TX.

I’d really like to know how one should “dress to impress” when the job will require wearing the company coveralls which will quickly show the results of working the job, i.e. oil, dirt, grease, chemicals, etc. Do I wear my “Sunday go-to-meeting best” or my “Saturday night at the Mariachi best”? BTW, for those not from these parts, that includes an oversized and highly-formed cowboy straw-hat with starched jeans and boots from exotic leather that are styled to kill cockroaches in tight spaces, i.e. very-pointed toes.

As to Halliburton, good company that I’ve watched since I was young and riding the oilfields with my dad who worked as a pumper for Texaco. In small-town OK, Halliburton is a major economic force for employment there when they have a central facility, or “camp” as it was known back in the day. There’s certainly a bright horizon for operations in the area described in the advertisement.

My son works in the oil industry. A friend of his in Houston got 4 job offers in three weeks.

Not all hires are worth the same amount of money. Someone with 10 years experience should be paid more. Tying your own hands by posting a set wage before even meeting the candidates is unwise.

This the time for all the men who talk about moving to Texas to make it happen. They'll get people. North Dakota has. Money talks.

Re: “Tying your own hands by posting a set wage before even meeting the candidates is unwise.”

If “unwise” means trying to pay the lowest possible wage, I agree.

All wages and salaries are publicly disclosed for all government jobs and union jobs in Washington state - and there is NEVER a shortage of qualified applicants who apply, unless the wage is too low.

Private companies should be required to disclose the high and low wage they pay to current employees under that job description.

One reason that wages have increased so slowly in the USA is that there is almost no private company wage information available to job applicants.

However - and incredibly - companies competing in the same industry can - and do - legally share wage information with each other, but they are not required to share it with current or future employees.
