Is it impossible to connect a Win 10 tablet to a Win 7 PC via USB?

I never imagined this would be impossible until I actually had to try and do it.

I'm trying to connect via USB my desktop (homebuilt, Intel based, Win 7 Ultimate) to a Lenovo Yoga tablet (Win 10) to copy over about 40 gig of files.

An hour long web search reveals no straightforward way to do this, indeed many sites say it's not possible by design.

I never give up until I have checked FR.

Am I stuck shuttling the files between computers using a flash drive, or my bog-slow home wireless network?

Connect them to your network with wired connection. Most routers have the option and cable is pretty cheap. You can go 100feet.

If your task is more or less a one-time-thing, consider just using a USB memory stick or micro SD card to perform the transfer.

On device has to support USB on the go, if neither does you can damage both devices

Huh, wierd. I’ve seen some thumb drives that have an adapter to fit the micro connector on phones and tablets. 21st century version of sneakernet to the rescue, maybe.

Out here in the boonies with 7mbps DSL, it would not be fun to transfer 40 gig that way.

Xfinity cable modem here - 100 Mbps down and 10 up. That would take forever even with this rig.

Can't you directly connect them via wifi without going through your router? Worst case is Bluetooth transfer, but you might be able to do a device to device connection wirelessly without a router.

I just bought a 1 Tb drive for about $20 at my local Frys.

You should be able to do as well in your nearby Best Buy or even Walmart.
