That depends who remains in control of cryptocurrency and how many alternatives fall by the wayside.
Various government entities have already started trying to gain control of cryptocurrency, including some here in the United States.
NY for instance has established a Bit-license scheme that requires CC exchanges that operate in the state to turn over client data. Japan also has heavy regulation of exchanges operating there.
If paper money falls by the wayside and government controls the electronic alternatives, then its game over for folks who want to maintain economic privacy and freedom.
NY has to force CC businesses to turn over client data at the point of a gun. OTOH credit card processors can be cut off by Visa or MC or the government without any force, just by pushing a button. One of the other things we get from CC is payments to and from anyone in the world. The government can’t stop or tax those. When I paid my taxes on CC gains a few days ago, that was voluntary. But I want to pay my “fair share” of taxes even that fair share is more than it should be at the present time.
