“By refusing to help to develop the third world and helping them become self-sufficient, we prolong their poverty.

It would be easy to help them develop their own energy sources, food production, and education.”

Did you forget the sarcasm tag? How much in money, resources, mission work, you name it, has gone into that sh!thole continent? I’ve been hearing it for 50+ years and nothing good comes from it. When people won’t help themselves there is little anyone else can do. Its time for them to dig their own wells, plant their own crops, and perhaps build something more permanent than a grass hut and produce something besides more Africans.

I was in Uganda in 1994 as part of the Rwanda famine relief effort. I walked the streets of Kampala and never felt uncomfortable. I never had any negative interactions with the locals. I never got sick from eating the food. Bottom line...don’t believe everything you hear about other countries or continents.

AlaskaErik hit the nail on the head. I visited Kenya, never felt unsafe at all. Local people were very gracious. I don’t believe everything I read, even on Free Republic. I am optimistic. Things are changing.

I have lived in South Africa and Malagasy Republic. It was interesting and everytime we went to the shore, we brought firearms. You say, “Oh, why, why did you do such a dastardly thing?”

Because the roving bands of men or singular men had their guns and we were just prepared for the consequences of that.

Roving bands of orphans whose HIV + parents had died were just as dangerous and there were many of those. I can’t imagine what it is like now some 15 years later.

The original concept of "asylum" was supposed to apply to individuals who were being persecuted. Today "asylum" is being used as a pretense for evacuating entire populations who are suffering because their culture is a basket case. Like a plague, they want to run away from it but, instead, end up spreading it.

Global warming is meme used to push population control.

The PC Left is very selective when it comes to its environmental agenda, as it is about most things - there's one agenda for us and another, much more permissive one, for Third World peoples.

The PC Left attacks US and Western industry "because it pollutes," and they keep telling Americans and Europeans to have fewer children to "prevent overpopulation."

Yet in spite of the fact that industries in developing countries pollute much more than our industries, despite the fact that western nations are much better stewards of natural resources than Third World countries, and despite the fact that overpopulation is a problem in the Third World while western populations are stable or shrinking, you never hear "environmentalist" liberals attacking the cultures and policies in the Third World, because that would be "racist."

It's analogous to their attitude towards women's rights and "gay rights." If you don't want to use our tax $ to pay for some college girl's birth control pills, you're a misogynist. If you're a Christian baker who refuses to custom-make a homosexual "wedding" cake, you're an evil homophobe. But don't criticize Muslims for stoning rape victims for death for adultery or for throwing homosexuals off of towers, because then you're an intolerant bigot who doesn't accept the beautiful contribution Muslims make to the multicultural fabric. The same reasoning applies to the PC left's "environmental" agenda - it only applies to us, not to the Third World beneficiaries of multiculturalism.

Did you forget the facts on the ground?

ALL of the “aid” we provide is conditional!

They MUST participate in contraception and abortion programs.
By providing free food rather than teaching/helping them to farm, we undercut all efforts at self-sufficiency.
NO meaningful energy production is allowed. Only pitiful and small solar panels.
No meaningful education.
No attempts to stop the slaughter of Christians.
No attempts to manage the corruption of the despots who steal much of the aid provided.

They MUST participate in contraception and abortion programs.

You're mixing apples and oranges - promoting contraception actually reduces the incidence of abortions, for one thing. More importantly, wouldn't promotion of condom use be a good thing for much of Sub-Saharan Africa, given that most of the people there can't even afford to feed and clothe the children that they already have, and the fact that in some countries nearly 1/3 of the population is HIV positive?

What about great Christian leaders, such as Cardinal Sarah and Cardinal Arinze, who oppose relativism and modernism in the Catholic Church, and Anglican Archbishop Peter Akinola, who helped create a platform for those American Episcopalians who wanted to leave the increasingly un-Christian Episcopalian Church?

Well, don’t go and find out. When I was in Germany, we used to go TDY all over Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Instead of Africa, I chose to go to Turkey. It sucked, but other co workers went to Algeria and Ghana. Turkey was bad enough, but my friends told me that it was the worst place they had ever seen, and these guys were Vietnam veterans.

You mean to tell me that the superior, technologically advanced, African fairytale society promoted by The Black Panther “movie” wasn’t true, but just make believe? Say it isn’t so!

It is inspiring Bill Gates’ programme to rid the continent of malaria

Bill Gates, it is my understanding, bought and shipped to Africa many, many, yards of mosquito netting. The natives chopped up the netting to make nets for catching fish.

The mosquito nets were impregnated with chemicals to kill off mosquitoes. These chemicals dissolved in the water, killing off the fish the natives depended on for food.

The poverty that exists is either exacerbated by man or directly imposed by man.

Intellectual Poverty

Raised income levels qualify
more and more as povertized--
  We drop the expectations
  for their public education
  so they become less able
to keep food on the table--
Thereby their income stays, you see,
within the realm of poverty.
A few may still climb out, so then
the limits must be raised again
and schools told to ask less of them
who can't eat self-esteem.

Google the newsletters of Cathy Buckle, a white woman who’s lived in Zimbabwe for many years. The blandness of daily horror rubs off on you pretty soon.
