New Shingles Vax??

Feedback on the new shingles vaccine? I usually lie low on medical treatment and don't go for 'the latest' treatment on much of anything. But then, I am healthy. Any feedback about this new vaccine? Side-effects? Avoid it? Go for it? Just collecting data here, thanks.

new vaccine almost twice as effective as old one:

https://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/shingles/news/20180212/new-shingles-vaccine_what-you-need-to-know

but contains what amounts to an experiment adjuvant, adjuvants being foreign substances included specifically to “irritate” the immune system into being overly-reactive.

https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/gsks-shingrix-containing-agenus-qs-21-stimulon-adjuvant-receives-marketing-authorization-from-health-canada-300536543.html

Personally, I don’t think adjuvants in humans vaccines are a good idea. The adjuvants in the cheap versions of feline rabies vaccine has resulted in an epdemic of hyperthyroism and injection site sarcomas in cats.

Have had shingles once before - MANY years ago.

Had the shingles vaccine (available even if you’ve had shingles before), sometime between 2008 and 2010. No side effects (so far????).

Oh for crimony sakes. I am not writing a research paper, just gathering qualitative data. I am a grant writer, and I will quote from a recent grant: “Qualitative data (on your project) is evidence largely in the form of words and text - quotes, narratives, and stories, as well as descriptions of performances, etc.”

I used it in that context. If you don’t like it, pish.

Went to Saudi in the 1980 as Vice Commander of Elf One with it. Lot of stress. Massive amounts of vitamin E inside and out got me through.

Shingles is not something you want to contract, it's very painful and there is no effective treatment other than to let it run its course, which may amount to many weeks. Never had it but those close to me have, and it wasn't pretty.

There is an antiviral treatment that helps to clear up the disease faster. I took the antiviral, although I am not sure if it really made the rashes go away faster. I continued to have sharp stabbing pains on the side of my neck long after the rashes cleared up.

Ok genius
So please explain a 20000% increase in autism Aspergers and the spectrum disorders since 1970
And please explain the 5 billion $ fund to pay off parents of lost and damaged kids
There’s plenty of room for debate and the stupid comparison to flat earthrrs helps no one
As an ADULT a vaccine is YOUR INFORMED choice. Not so for babies and kids
Grow up and stop supporting totalitarianism

Shingles is a form of herpes. Herpes zoster they say. Lysine is a treatment for herpes therefore I thought it might work and it did. Maybe you want to buy some for Thanksgiving present for yourself.

In addition to lysine, I have used this supplement that inhibits the ability of viruses to multiply...

Munity Boost - handles many things, including flu. I took care of my wife during a 10 day bout of the flu while I took this. No problems for me. She didn't want to try it and suffered. Later, she had a terrible stomach virus. I got out the Munity Boost and was spared. I now have a spare bottle too. I would also rely on it for shingles.

I had them about 5 years ago, through my research, I believe I got them because I was on Prednisone for a short period.

I’m brewing a concoction for a friend who had them 4 years ago. She still has the post herpetic pain. I hope it works but it takes 3 weeks to brew.

Just last night I was talking to a 40 something and she has had a light case and her 13 year old has already had them twice. I brought up the Prednisone and she said that she had taken it for pleurisy not long before she had them.

A relative of mine got shingles, was given prednisone but decided not to take it. Met an alternative medicine person who told her to drink a quart of celery juice per day. Being Los Angeles, she had a juice bar near by so gave it a try. Said cleared up in couple weeks!

My insurance covered the old vaccine when I was 61. I will wait for Medicare to try for the new vaccine.

My wife has it now. She said that it was worse than childbirth & she’s had 6 kids!

I don't know how I deserved it, but I've had about ten kidney stone attacks, a dozen gall bladder attacks, dozens of Prinzmetal-Angina attacks, and shingles—followed by post-hepatic pain. In pain ratings, I'd put gall bladder attacks as the worst, followed closely by kidney stone attacks, then shingles then Prinzmetal-Angina. (Which mimics heart attacks).

Fortunately, my shingles was painless about 99% of the time; however, that 1% had me bent over in pain, and in tears! (Forehead to the left eye).

Shingles gave my eye iritis, which had to be treated with a visit to Bascom-Palmer Eye Institute. The medication (prednisolone) eventually put me into a sleep-deprivation mode, in which case, I'd prefer to be water-boarded!

I got the Zostavax vaccination—after a necessary waiting period, and am looking forward to the newest vaccine.

Here's an important note for those of us who were previously vaccinated. The Mayo Clinic writes: "Shingrix is approved and recommended for people age 50 and older, including those who've previously received Zostavax."

My mother got it about 3 years ago & it still bothers her & she has to do special eye drops. She has been thru hell w/ shingles. After reading this thread I think I am going to spring for the new VAX.

Awful stuff. My husband got shingles in his 40’s & also developed Bell’s palsy. His was mild & no lingering effects.

BHT is said to cure shingles and other lipid coated viruses.

When I had it, I held a red heat lamp, infrared light on it several times a day, as close as possible, without burning myself. In a week it was gone.

“Shingles is a form of herpes.”

Not true. Same family as herpes simplex, but one is not the other.

“Herpes zoster they say. “

Yes, unfortunately they do but that does not make varicella-zoster a herpes virus.
