Well I've tried investigating a number of site friends and associates have suggested but just not terribly impressed with what I'm finding.

Still looking to mt friends here on FR, who always happen to be "experts" on many such things.

K9 used to be the go-to program for protecting children. Been a while since I’ve looked, and there may be something better now.

Same for Covenant Eyes for accountability software.

In most routers you can establish a black list. I know the list goes on and on but it’s a start.

if your kids are browsing to adult sites, they also know how to go around it. Proxies, i-frames and VPNs will do the trick. I had a client who’s friends got together with their friends and made a “Spank machine” which was a computer off the network that they would teamviewer to.

The solution must lie between the chair and the keyboard.

There's always editing the "hosts" file too, on each machine.

There are plenty of how-to's, as I confess I haven't done it in a while, and I don't think I ever did in Win10.

http://www.abelhadigital.com/hostsman/

Hostsman is the greatest.
Not specifically an adult site blocker, yet its filters block much of their content and many sites.
Straightforward (simply puts lists of malicious and tiresome sites in the hosts file), and free.

Yeah...don’t go to porn sites.

And if your kids do, break their fingers.

It’s all pretty simple.

In many cases if you modify the hosts file (Which I don’t think anything above Win7 cares about. It’s all DNS there) something will pick up the change and change it back.

Is it plugged in?

If so, unplug and throw away!

Probably the most effective way is to modify your "hosts" file so that your computer will automatically can't see porn sites.

This is a method that has been done for hard ad-blocking for a several years. Instructions for doing this with ad sites is located at this site: Blocking Unwanted Connections with a Hosts File.

If you follow those instructions and install the updated hosts file, that will cut out most any ad site.

Then if you add this list of pr0n sites to the end of the modified "hosts" file, you will have a very effective way to eliminate most of the garbage.

Obviously, though, there are pr0n sites that pop up (no pun intended) all the time. If you understand what you're doing by following the instructions above, you can easily add any new sites to the end of your modified "hosts" file in order to keep it continuously up-to-date.

And, by the way, the total cost for this is NOTHING.

If you want to block these sites to protect kids/grandkids, just create a computer account for each of them...make them use that account...and make sure that the account doesn't have administrative permissions. Then it would be very difficult for them to modify the hosts file.
