Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein approved an application last year to extend surveillance of former Trump campaign associate Carter Page, a secret Republican memo claims, according to law enforcement sources and news reports.
Rosenstein has been fighting the release of the memo from inside the Justice Department, sources confirm.
According to three people familiar with the memo, the FBI and Justice Department’s (DOJ) application was based partially on research by investigator Christopher Steele, who contributed to a dossier containing unverified claims about President Trump‘s ties to Russia.

Sessions chose Rosenstein as his DAG, then recuses himself from a hoax, and now we have a special counsel coup.
That whole song and dance which led to that outcome was orchestrated. It did not happen by chance.

Not one of us could escape prison doing 1/100th of what these people did. So much for “equal justice under the law, right? They’re special; we’re not.

I'm not a big fan of Rosenstein but this is a gross mischaracterization of what happened.
Rosenstein DID draft a letter or memo outlining the reasons why Comey should be fired. Then President Trump completely undermined Rosenstein with that stupid Lester Holt interview a few days later when he said he wanted to fire Comey anyway. This put Rosenstein in a position where he could very well have been duped by his superiors into writing a recommendation to fire Comey under false pretenses.

1. AG Sessions ordered most or all of the U.S. Attorneys (including Rosenstein) to submit their resignations, as per this protocol.
2. President Trump refused to accept Rosenstein's resignation from his post as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland.
That narrative actually makes sense. Rosenstein probably has a number of potential conflicts of interest in the matter (which explains why his subordinate Chris Wray reviewed the Nunes memo over the weekend, while Rosenstein did not) ... and he realizes he can't navigate them in any way short of stepping down.

No its not. Trump’s remarks in his interview with Holt was to take the heat off of Rothemstein who was under immense criticism. Trump said he was going to fire him anyway. So Trump took the heat and Rothenstein scewed him for it.

It doesn’t look like it. Even Jay Sekulow was talking about ‘personnel replacements’ as a means to drain the swamp.(This was months ago on his radio program) Nothing as lofty as bringing people to JUSTICE /rolleyes
Steele and Fusion GPS were peddling the dossier to the media without actually revealing the contents. It was James Kramer, a McCain crony, who leaked the dossier to Fusion GPS.
