Don't Panic Over the Latest Flu Fraud
Canada Free Press ^ | 01/22/18 | Michael Fumento

Posted on 01/22/2018 6:11:11 AM PST by Sean_Anthony

So let's set priorities rather than setting off panics

Flu fear is in the air! Emergency rooms are swamped. Sore throat? Nasal congestion? Get thee to the hospital! Now!

We know we should believe this because the media tell us so.

The hype:

“Get Ready, Some Medical Experts Are Predicting the Worst Flu Season In History,” declares a CNBC headline.

“Here’s Why the Flu Is Especially Bad This Year,” says Time.

“Five Things You Should Know About This Year’s Very Bad Flu,” proclaims The Washington Post.

We repeatedly hear of “deadly flu” and are told in dire terms that over 100 Americans have died from it as of January 11.

The anti-viral Tamiflu could be very helpful, but there are localized shortages. (Because of the hype, of course.)

When you are old and have End-Stage Emphysema, you panic over the FLU.

IT IS THE WORSE FLU SEASON IN A VERY LONG TIME. And the paranoid believe this is a fraud? Funny.

When you have asthma the flu can be problematic. On day three away from work. This guy can suck rocks.

Hundreds die of the flu every year. Look it up. But everything is worse when there is a Republican president.

That's the take-home message. The flu is bad, and does kill people, but you are much more susceptible to a bad outcome if you are immune compromised, older, or have some underlying condition, such as end-stage emphysema, that puts you at particular risk. I agree that everything gets hyped these days, but the flu can be very dangerous, obviously with some strains being more virulent than others. The 1918 flu pandemic killed an estimated 20-50 million people world-wide.

In some sections of the country it is a health emergency.

Daughter-in-law is a critical care doctor in Oregon and in the last month she has seen at least one patient a day die because of this flu. And people are dying who are not in the normal categories of the vulnerable. That is what makes this a concern.

He is probably Twenty-four and has no clue what real illness is.

True enough.

Hype and Hyperbole don't do any good though. The current meme in my area is " The Flu is Awful! The Flu Shot didn't protect anyone this year!". Hysteria, hype, etc.

Wonder if this hype and panic, and bad info about the vaccine will prevent anyone from getting the shot next year, and how much damage it will do.

I wouldn’t be so quick to ignore this. A good friend’s brother-in-law died over the weekend from the flu. He was in his 30s, in otherwise good health, and had one child with another on the way. It’s very sad.

Right on.

The media breathlessly touts the number of 36,000 deaths a year.

Yet, in 2010, the actual number was less than 500. In 2001, it was under 300.

The CDC in 2015 reported 36,000 deaths from the flu. Did we hear anything about it during Obama’s reign? In fact, the CDC wanted the flu fatalities reported “in a range of 3,500-49,000” per year at that time. This year, they keep a running total and it seems there will not be an unusual number of flu deaths unless the cold weather lengthens the flu season.

Americans should become aware that Colds/Flu are a weapon that kills. If as a nation we took precautions ( Masks—alcohol swabs—coughing properly) Stores talking Counter help with colds away from the public etc. Many more people would live to enjoy their retirement...

About 1200 people have died from the flu this season just in Texas. This flu season is a bad one.

I got my first flu shot ever a few days ago. Even if it’s less effective than most years, it’s better than nothing.

A few weeks ago my sister witnessed customers at a grocery store have enough of a clerk that was obviously ill and dealing with money and the public, they made it clear it was garbage.

My wife and I are healthy and never get colds/flu etc. BUT, this year when all this started in late Nov we were both very sick, and I stayed sick for three weeks. BTW, we both had flu shots in late Sept.

I haven’t had the flu in 5 years and I never get the flu shot. After 5 days being down with the flu over New Years, I have to say this year seems much worse than usual. And it relapses still.
