One way to stop injustices like the acquittal of Kate Steinle's killer is for Congress to make violent acts committed by illegal aliens federal crimes, which would empower the U.S. Department of Justice to prosecute them in federal court.
Millions of Americans are outraged that a local jury refused to convict Jose Zarate for killing young Kate Steinle. Some question the effectiveness of the county prosecutor. All Zarate was convicted of was illegally possessing a firearm. Zarate was charged and prosecuted under California state law.

Actually I like this. ANY CRIME committed by an illegal alien is a federal offense—automatic life sentence. Give them jail or deport with no return.
Separation of powers.
Commit a crime on federal land (National Park, Indian Reservation, etc) and you are hauled into federal court (or possibly local Indian court). Commit a crime on state land (state, county, city, etc) and you go to state court.

Fed versus state law is not a separation of powers issue. State law does not trump federal law. Federal law is not limited in jurisdiction to only land areas "owned" by the federal government. Federal law can be enforced and is applicable anywhere in the United States. If that were not so, the DOJ and the FBI and the dozens of alphabet agencies such as the IRS, FAA, FDA, DOE, SEC, and FEC would have no standing anywhere but in national parks and on Indian reservations. And illegal aliens would be "illegal" only in those areas. Sounds like you were not educated in America, as a graduate from a U.S. high school would be required to know this.

Yeah deport the murderers with no return. They would be back before you crawled in your truck, shut the door and started the engine because our borders are NOT secure like we have been PROMISED. Even if they were caught the odds are they would be RELEASED and given a date to return for a deportation hearing.
Who ever said anything about not building a wall?! Besides, stopping and erradicating illegal aliens will require several things: (1) wall, (2) fearful costs, and (3) jail and worse for anyone that hires an illegal alien.
