Carbon Taxes Increase Global CO2 Emissions. Period.
National Economics Editorial ^ | Dec 2, 2017 | Spencer P Morrison

As the hysteria over global warming heats up, carbon taxes have become the “cool” option. Environmentalists love them. So do politicians, who are more than happy to raise taxes while scoring political points.

Carbon taxes, or other analogous pricing schemes, are now prevalent in Western Europe, and are making headway in North America. For example, California recently joined forces with the Canadian Provinces of Ontario and Quebec to create an integrated cap-and-trade carbon market.

On top of this, many well-known economists support carbon taxes, thinking they’re the best way to mitigate man’s contribution to climate change. A new report written by thirteen leading economists under the direction of professors Nicholas Stern and Joseph Stiglitz—who won a Nobel Prize in 2001—recommends the adoption of a global carbon tax.

The tax would value carbon emissions somewhere between 50 and 100 USD per ton by 2030, and would cost upwards of $4 trillion. Theoretically, the tax would raise the cost of using carbon-intensive sources of energy, thereby nudging producers to switch from fossil fuels to “green energy” sources like wind and solar power. Likewise, it would raise the cost of electricity, thus creating an incentive to use energy more efficiently.

This makes sense in theory. There’s just one problem. It won’t work.

liberal obsession over carbon taxes is causing people to forget about actual environmental issues. carbon is not a toxic substance: we need it to live. If anything, adding some to the atmosphere will make the world that much more lush.

Either way, if the goal is to reduce carbon emissions, taxes have the exact opposite effect.

Stop exhaling if you believe CO2 is a dangerous pollutant

There are trillions to be made trading CO2. Trillions.

They will never give up until they get it. There is no limit to what they will do to get it.

Its all about raising the funds to finance the welfare state using the climate as an excuse to sucker the people into accepting the new taxes.

Thank you for referencing that article Thalean. Please note that the following critique is directed at the article and not at you.

"Carbon Taxes Increase Global CO2 Emissions. Period."

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

Patriots are reminded that the states have never expressly constitutionally delegated to the feds the specific power to regulate environmental issues.

In other words, the states would first need to amend the Constitution with an environmental amendment before the feds could deal with pollution and politically correct global warming.

”… who are more than happy to raise taxes while scoring political points [emphasis added]."

Mr. Morrison got that right.

With all due respect to the family, friends and supporters of the late Pres. Nixon (I believe), he was wrong to sign environment-related bills into law.

That being said, patriots need to finish the job that they started in the 2016 elections by electing Trump president.

More specifically, patriots now need to be making sure that there are plenty of state sovereignty-respecting, Trump-supporting patriot candidates on the 2018 primary ballots and pink-slip career lawmakers by sending patriot candidate lawmakers to D.C. on election day.

Drain the swamp! Drain the swamp!

Let’s add this up & see what we have. CO2 is not a pollutant,so there is no sensible reason to be taxing it. It’s not causing any problems at or anywhere near the present concentration in the atmosphere. As one comment suggested,it seems there are big bucks to be made in “carbon trading”. It’s not the average person who would benefit from this. The extra taxes,or fees,or whatever it would be called will only make life more difficult for the average person. I thought by now that most people realized that the renewable forms of energy(solar & wind mainly)are not in a position that would even begin to replace the “fossil fuels”. To me,this whole “carbon tax” is nothing but a scam that would accomplish nothing good.

Fedzilla has the largest carbon footprint of any organization on Earth, and the largest negative return on investment. Taxes aren’t just collected, they are quickly spent and then some. Spending is directly proportional to pollution output. It is not possible to spend the carbon taxes without emitting more carbon than before.

You’re absolutely right. Glad you brought this up!

And for the record I don’t subscribe to anthropogenic climate change anyways. I do find it interesting, however, that even when you buy the left’s premises, their arguments still fail.
