I wish I knew this back when I was stationed in Mannheim in “74”, I would have made it a point to visit the town.

The National Geographic “Asteroids: Deadly Impact” is mostly about the Shoemakers and a little aabout Levy, the codiscoverers of the SL9 comet that fragmented then barreled into Jupiter back in 1994. Early in the show the Shoemakers retrace part of their trip to the town. The building stone didn’t look all that attractive to me, but of course in person it could be quite different (that’s how Van Gogh’s work is, as is the impressionists’ work).
