On this day last year, I was on my Facebook timeline touting a new de-contented Colt entry-level AR carbine with an MSRP in the low $700 range. Today, CDNN is selling brand new Colt LE6920's, pretty much the benchmark AR-pattern carbine, for $799.99 and throwing in a 30-round Pmag and some other stuff to sweeten the deal.
Walther is offering hundred dollar rebates on the PPQ and HK is throwing in bundles of magazines with new pistol purchases, meaning that in real terms you're getting a Walther or Heckler & Koch for the price of a base model G-lock.
Smith & Wesson is slashing prices and offering rebates. Shields are priced at impulse-buy levels these days.
Why is all this happening? Well, while most firearms companies are privately held and therefore inscrutable on matters fiscal, the goings-on at a few are public knowledge because they are publicly traded.
The news from American Outdoor Brands Corporation (neé Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation) tells a tale that is probably all too common in the industry right now: Shelves groaning under unsold inventory that was churned out in expectation of the mother of all gun panics following a Hillary Clinton victory.

Prices are coming done for sure.
Classics and collectibles are harder to find and much pricier. Go ahead and find a good 1911A1 from Ithaca or Remington Rand for less than $1,400 or a 1918 P08 Luger for similar money. Heaven forfend that you want a pre-64 Winchester for less than a King's ransom! Good luck even finding them..
Most of the really good quality (i.e. wood and steel, hand-fitted) are rapidly getting out of reach for most of us.
Not surprising the industry lost their best salesman in January.
Ammo hasn’t gone down at all. In my neck of the woods ammo got more expensive right after the election and hasn’t come down much yet. Best price I got on ammo was the Friday BEFORE the election — ordering online tends to be cheaper, but very few businesses will ship ammo to MA. Even though it’s perfectly legal, the MA AG has threatened to hassle any business that will ship us beans, despite having no legal authority to do so.
Try to find a Llama Jordanian 9mm Minimax in excellent condition. Only 200 manufactured. Beautiful gun.
My motto? Buy high and sell low.
94s are probably the most common pre-64s around and I doubt it is worth significantly more than I paid for it, but the condition is amazing for a 70+ year old gun and it's worth every penny to me.

That’s the very least of what this evil bitch has done. Are you forgetting her “assault” weapons ban?
More of the same. She thrives on issuing unilateral decrees, as if she were some kind of queen.
- I'll give you $550 for it!
LOL! Seems like that’s my MO also.
I’m seeing some price drops on gun auctions for new guns. On the retail side, manufacturers seem more willing to offer rebates or additional merchandise rather than lowering prices. I’ve been following prices of some high dollar guns (Wilson, Nighthawk, etc.) and notice that sellers are trying to hold out for a high price but that inventory is increasing. Would love to see them drop to the $1,500-$2,000 range but doubt that will happen.
Anyone know what the heck happened to production of the Circuit Judge?
Did the judges’ union bully Rossi?
I’ve been looking for a new model for more than two years, and the best that any local dealer will do is put my name on a list for “when” they become available, as “they’re made in batches”.
Not here in The Peoples Republic of CT. Most are over MSRP. Been that way for years.

And getting away with it.
There IS an ammo glut. Even .22LR is available at reasonable prices.
You must be a Harvard Business grad....................
Outstanding! Have been shopping for a new revolver to my collection of things that go BANG!
If we get one single good pro gun bill passed at the federal level.
One well see a dramatic prices drop for sure.
There are a lot of AR and 1911 makers out those well be the first to see big price decreases and that already started.
The top end guys well be last their market share is small.
