The news that President Trump is looking to remove the States Waivers on the Welfare to Work program has been greeted with howls of anger by the MSM. They are hunting down every single sob story they can find about how good people have been negatively impacted; and the stories are sad, and they shouldnt happen in a civilized society, but the reality is that this program will help a lot more people than it will harm.
What is being largely ignored by the MSM are the perimeters of the program. Here are the people who will not be asked either get a job with least 20 hours a week, enter a job-training program, or volunteer a minimum of 24 hours a month:
Those who have either children, disabled or elderly dependants. Those who are not physically capable of work. Those who are elderly.

F—K job training. Just another stalling tactic. Let them pick cotton the old fashioned way.
A few wrinkles in the belly is a powerful incentive to work.
Contractors in our area are swamped with work, but unable to get workers. There are also lots of Help Wanted signs at businesses in town. No excuse for any able-bodied person to be sitting on welfare.
But...but...but...work is rayciss!
Businesses all over my city have more ‘now hiring’ signs than you can count. The problem is they want to pay and treat people like DIRT and they’re ‘always hiring’ because they’ll fire a seasoned employee if you so much as look at someone funny for threatening to kill you.
Yes, some of these are bottom-of-the-barrel jobs, but that doesn’t excuse anyone who is able-bodied from being responsible & working. If the boss is an ass, learn the skill & take it to another employer. I worked for LOTS of a**holes in my many years of work. I just started looking for a new job & quit when I found one.
That’s not always possible, and I speak from unpleasant experience. The other half of the problem is that after Obamacare a $9-11 no benefits job either gets your income eaten alive buying insurance on your own or a fat penalty every year PLUS paying out of pocket for everything.
Other thing is if you get fired for any reason you either have a gap in your resume, have to lie, or risk being not taken by anywhere as basically damaged goods.
This gets really hairy if you worked for, say, First Data who is notorious for mass firings at certain times of the year to make their budget look better.
If you’re fired & it really is not your fault you have the ability to explain what happened. Interestingly, employers risk a lot if they bad-mouth an ex-employee. At the last place I worked the policy on referrals was simply to say 1) yes, they were an employee & 2) they would or would not be considered for re-hire. Nothing further would be said. I always kept my annual reviews to hand out to possible future employers.
You can try but you’ll be lucky to get a word in. I had two places go out of business within two months of each other, and it TRASHED my job search for a damn year. The few places that did give me an interview acted like I had a criminal record.
What makes it worse are the automated systems online which are often set to pre-filter anyone who checks the “I was fired” box or had more than X many jobs within Y months/years. You won’t even get told why you didn’t get any response.
Yea, there are times when an employer misses out on a good employee by looking at a record without the nuance. I’m sorry you had that experience.
