The act of Female Genital Mutilation is becoming far more widespread in the US than ever before. There are more than half a million (at least) women and girls who have undergone this barbaric procedure in the US alone and studies suggest there are more than 200 million women and girls worldwide living today who have been abused in this way. Yet Democrats (and some Republicans) across the nation are voting AGAINST making this practice illegal in their States.
In Maine, the House voted 76-71 AGAINST a new law that would make Female Genital Mutilation illegal. They have instead opted for an “outreach program” to help “certain communities” understand why it is wrong. But it is not only Maine. Minnesota, Nevada and many other have either passed or in the process of passing laws that stop FGM being made a crime.

I hope the votes of these Democrats and Republicans voting against this will be reported and that they are removed from office...words cannot describe my contempt for them!!
Outside of child sex trafficking, I cannot think of a worse abuse being perpetrated against girls.
Where are the feminists on this issue??? Where are the Catholic priests on this issue? Where are the evangelical pastors on this issue?

Because I believe in slippery slopes, would banning this act give more credibility to those who are trying to ban male circumcision?

Yes, but only because it sets a precedent, not for any rational reason. I've read all the arguments and studies about male circumcision. The two procedures are not comparable (although I'm sure you can find people who will try to do make the comparison.) Basically, with male circumcision it comes down to a small complication rate vs hygiene and aesthetic and possible religious issues. Looking at the studies I'm ok with people arguing for not doing it, but the complication rate is nowhere high enough to mandate over the parents choice. Whereas with the female genital mutilation, the whole point is to damage the sensation of the area. As one circumcised researcher put it, "the thing is already as sensitive as Liza Manelli on a bad day".
Hanging from the nearest bridge would be more appropriate. It will come to that.
The male to female comparison is not valid in this instance.
If I were on a jury deciding the fate of a man who slit the throat of a doctor who performed this criminal procedure I would vote NOT GUILTY!

This is a HANGING CURVE BALL for Trump - make it a BIG-TIME issue. Get the country talking about it. Make the Democrats GO ON RECORD nationally as supporting this horrific act.
I would say that this is a hanging curve ball for Republicans in general...but I already know that the vast majority of non-Trump (elected) Republicans would prefer that little girls be mutilated than have to address the issue. I’m not that dumb as to expect anything out of them.
In my book if you hold a little girl down and cut her anywhere, you have commuted a crime. No need for a special law.

It depends. If you take the girl home to the ‘old country’ to have it done, what law have you broken?
And, by the way, it’s a bit more than ‘cutting’, as the left calls it. Mutilation is a closer to how things usually wind up.
